Is it me ?

Post by El Presidente »

I REALLY don't get it, I list bikes on Ebay with no reserve and just a starting price and all I get is mails "How much do you want for it mate?"
.
SURELY I "want" the starting price and anything else is a bonus?

No it's not just you, someone always 'tries it on', I used to quote them a price well over what any others have ever sold for... trouble is, on a coupla occasions mine then made a new record and they would have got a bargain after all...

E Bay is so tiresome. Of 10 enquiries the first Nine are from E Bay regualars who may not really be interested in an actual purchase, but have little else to do with their lives ; rather tan tell you how clever they are .

I suppose it`s how any question is actually posed ? You sometimes have to ask them what they are really asking, rather than the question posed .

I get the same stuff from E Bayers. ; How much for Cash ?

Same as for a cheque or bacs transfer pal , I`m not a gardener working while
on the Dole !!

What`s your best price ? Well Pal, MY best price wouldn`t be the best for you , would it ?!!
( Besides, if I made a discounted offer, you would only treat that as
a starting point for further negotiations !! )

It needs some work doing to it ,
I`d have to spend a couple of thousand getting it to where I`d be happy with it.
Err, So ??!! If it was mint, I`d be asking
a couple of thousand more,
ya knob

You say your price is firm, because it`s fair and reasonable.price
and not to ask for a cash discount price. ? Yes, you`ve got it , well done.

OK. I have another triple already. How about giving me some parts for it as well ?
Yep, this actually happened at
a Show. I told him to Eff himself !!!

I listed a KH 500 on ebay

One guy went right through my photo bucket, he found a picture of the bikes clocks off the bike
He then accused be of clocking the bike
I replied" if I was going to clock a bike why would I put some clocks on with 39,000 miles on it"

Not everyone out there is a trader and you'd be surprised how many people are happy to finish the auction early to get some cash in their hands early. I've had lots of bargains this way. I too often ask the same annoying question  . I hate doing it but nothing pisses me off more than when something I really want on Ebay suddenly becomes 'no longer available' because someone has beaten me to it with the dreaded question. You should be able to avoid it by stating loudly "NO BUY-IT-NOW".

It used to be attractive to the seller because it was fast cash, no come back through Ebay, negative feedback etc. and no final value fees. The latter is no longer the case as Ebay charge fees now if the auction is ended early.

It's a double edged sword too. I recently bought an 'orrible Chinese trial bike for £100. Put a new battery on it and cleaned out the carb. It ran okay most of the time but was essentially a pile of crap so I put it on Ebay at 99p. I wanted £300 for it ideally. Then it started. "How much do you want for it?" "What will you take for it?" "Will you take £350?"......."Yes"........"Will you take £380 tomorrow?"...."Yes"....."I'll give you £375 cash for it if I can pick it up on Saturday"......"Yes". None of them ever turned up. It made £500 when the auction ended

I see your point James. I think if they were sensible enough to lead with an actual offer in £££ like your wasters did,I would then be able to reply with a Yes/No answer.
But , I find the majority just ask " Wots yer best price fur cash, mate " and won`t come out with a proper offer . Scared in case they pay too much for it . But given when I put a buy it now pric on it, it`s always a decent price to begin with ( For what its worth, to a serious buyer ) Then I know they`re wasting my time to begin with. Most stupid people think hey`re really smrter than the seller, because they`re too stupid to realise just how stupid they are !!! :smt102
