70 H1 rough, original £4500 (payed)
70 H1 not quite as rough original £5500 (payed)
2002 GSXR 600................20K go on figure that one out!
72 Z1 Owner turned down 30K
72 Z1 Owner turned down 25K

Don't panic! With Eric not knowing where to start with his valuations and wanting to insure his growing fleet, I simply suggested a starting point of cc plus a zero, then to go up or down depending on condition, so a fairly crude method, but better than he had and I don't think he has an H2 anyway. I didn't say how far up or down, other than to say later, that H2 prices are a bit crazy! Sorry you wasted your time trying to convince me as I'm not really bothered what H2s are worth and I can't afford them at those prices anyway :wink:

I always think it amazing that people will pay so much for bikes that either have obviously been through the “rehab” shop or are total POS's. I've bought and restored several POS's but I bought them cheap to restore them, not buy replacement parts! I constantly see rusty frames and well-worn under-seat components but remarkably brand new bolts placed selectively to make things seem nicer than they really are and shiny CDI boxes that look completely out of place with a barn-find condition background of other parts. Not that big a deal for many people but they insist on calling it a “restoration or partial restoration when it’s neither, they just replaced some parts …or incorrect restorations where the person didn’t even do his or her most basic research to find what gets gloss and what gets a satin black finish but the buyer is supposed to believe that the rest was done correctly?

I guess some "check-strokers" don't understand or appreciate the effort that goes into restoring a bike so maybe they can't tell the difference? I'm not knocking the guy that doesn't have the time or interest in building his own bike but enjoys riding a vintage bike. We all know people like that and there is nothing wrong at all with that. I just don't like seeing them get taken advantage of when they are looking at a "restored" bike to buy, that isn't a restored bike at all...just a collection of new reproduction parts. To me, a truly original or restored bike has real value but the others aren't on par with them. I feel badly for the guy with a mitt full of cash but lacks the knowledge to tell the difference.
