Advice please

Right, it's no good me pretending to be any kind of expert, and despite returning to the club after fourteen years in the wilderness without a triple I am keen to get myself back into the groove again.....I haven't been bikeless in this time and have owned an RG500 and RGV250 VJ22a in the past few years.
Both bikes had a good grin factor however, due to my advancing years and a tendon problem in my hands that I can't spell, I found that both the RG and the RGV caused so much discomfort when riding that I had to stop every 30 minutes or so to regain the feeling in my arms...This left two options, pack biking in, or get a bike you actually sit upright on instead of laying on them.
In my days as a triple fan I owned 2 s3's, 4 KH400's an H1e, H1f, H1a special, and an H2 that RB kindly relieved me of when I got divorced in 1994.
I'll be honest too and say I wasn't man enough for the H2 which wobbled and wallowed on anything other than uber smooth roads, too much like hard work for me.
Anyhow, I'm waffling here......So to the point, I was hoping for another S3 or KH400, because they are my comfort zone, however, prices have gone a bit silly now and I find myself considering a KH250, a model I've never even ridden because all the time gnawing away in the back of my mind is the fact that they were even considered slow back in the day.
I'm looking, and bidding on a bike on e-bay at the moment, it's totally unoriginal (sorry, not technical enough to put a link up) but looks really sweet, allspeeds A.R.E. wheels, two four seat, twin disks.......thing is, the guy wants £3500 for it, I wondered if an expert on here would have a quick look at the listing for me and give me their opinion? as to what they think and if it's worth that kind of money........I'm not sure, I like the looks of it, but theres no chain guard on it, and no rubber caps on the carb tops........So if anyone can spare the time and have a shifty and let me know what they think I'd be really grateful

£1500 - £2000 maximum
Although he may well of spent £3500 building it he cannot expect to get such a high price for a totally none standard bike.

Have never heard of a reground Crank on a Triple before?

Am I missing something?

Non Standard maybe but very nice looking all the same - But unfortunately as Simon has already said not worth not sort of Money.
You are in the Mint Standard zone for this amount of dosh

Thanks chaps, I know prices are getting sillier by the day, and I don't have a problem with non standard when it looks as good as that, but yes, it is too steep a price, that's not to say someone won't pay it.....it just won't be me!

good, theres loads of 400's come up for a lot less than that stupid price....

which i think would be more suited your needs even,...

To me they look a tidy execution for moving the pillion pegs back away from the rear-set riders pegs. It's a clean looking bike, but a shame he didn't drop a 400 lump in it at the same time.

I've commited bids on the green non standard one at the moment, best wait and see what happens, but Eddie's is obviously standard, or pretty close........I can remember someone on their hands and kness once at Basford hall back in the early 90's telling me I had a non standard washer fitted somewhere on my S3.......I was gutted!.......
I'm looking at one or two rough 400s on fleabay..........thing is, you can't just lay your hands on two four seats and Allspeeds today to get that racier look, same with the A.R.E. wheels, so I'm a bit reluctant to start something that would frustrate me no end.
I love Higgspeed pipes too, but I don't love the price!
I once saw an S3 in a magazine with pipes similar to the Arrows chambers with all the visicle seams and blue welds.......looked awesome.......god only knows how much something like those would cost......or who would make them.......this is where my knowledge lets me down.
I remember a bike from way back, at one of the rallies, it was an H2 with swarbricks, RGV banana swing arm and front forks, I think RB refered to it as "Ancient and modern"......I've never forgotten it, god it was lovely!......

I know what you are saying about not hitting the reserve, I'm just hoping if I end up highest bidder the seller might think sod it and let me have it!.......

other than that, I don't know which way to go.......S3, H1e/f....like them all, loved riding them all..

Like my bikes to be a bit different.....anyone remember SRB 190M?......that's about the most "different" I got......wish I still had it!

400's are considered by many to be the best all round triple.I have an s3 and love it,but the s series bikes are physically quite small so depending on your build you may fit a h1 better.I have an h1a and enjoy riding it probably more than any of my other triples and you will be hard pressed to find an h1a owner that does'nt rate it highly.I personally think H1a's are undervalued at the moment compared to other triples and if you like the raw two stroke experience an early h1 will fit the bill.

Well, the biddings gone over two grand, so thats me out........and so has the bidding on the other kh that was on here for £1800......Seems to me people are realising what we've known all along, wonder if prices will drop when "our" generation has passed into history?
Be interesting to see if he gets the three and a half grand he wanted for it.

What I'm going to do now is save up and get something really special, by the way things are going it will probably be around the ten grand mark and be in need of a complete rebuild , re-spray and, of course, non standard................He he!
