Probably the last sunny Sunday of the year, so I took the H1 out for a spin.

Me and my mate Tony took the 400 and 666 out to a bike meet on the A 30 then onto Windsor by the river. Great weather and roads. Just tried to post pic from my iPad but failure as usual.

My S2 restoration is coming along now. All the dents and scrapes to the exhausts repaired and now just returned from the chrome platers. Looking very nice :D

Beautiful bike; beautiful weather; beautiful countryside. Must have been a great ride, and I envy you big time. It pissed down over this side.
Thought provoking tyres on your bike, but I'm pretty ignorant on bike matters so forgive me if I'm wrong. They both look similar tread patterns but seem to go in different directions? Sorry if I'm being a Dick but I'm sure there are plenty who will tell me so if that's the case and I'll accept that in the spirit of true friendship!

Hi MalcP

Thank you for your kind comments, the tires are Avon Roadriders, here is fitment explanation from Avon,

Why does the front tyre appear to be running the wrong way?
We call this Inverted Front Grooves. We have done a great deal of testing and research on tread patterns and found the front tyre is better run in the opposite direction to the rear. The front tyre has to deal with braking forces and the rear wheel with drive forces, which are basically opposite forces. This may make the front appear to be running the wrong way round but in wet tests, we have found that the footprint is not long enough for water to channel very far through the grooves, it just needs to be expelled sideways quickly. By running the tyre as we do, we significantly reduce irregular tread wear. This means that even when the tyre is half worn, it is still putting down the correct amount of rubber on the road. Tyres run the other way round suffer from stepped and irregular wear which reduces their footprint and effectiveness in the wet quite dramatically.
If you check out any of the latest sports radial tyres from any of the other main tyre manufacturers, you will see they are all starting to do the same.
See IFG, (Inverted front grooves) section http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/motorcycle/ ... al-symbols

Cheers

Repairs were done by Steve Smethurst and his mate Ian in Pendleton (Salford). The exhausts were good and solid but had the usual damage at the bottom of the centre one - also small dents and scrapes on all of them.

The procedure I used was the same as I used for the pipes on my Avenger: Took the pipes to the Chrome Platers (Mark at R&S, Oldham Road, Failsworth) who stripped them. Then to Steve and Ian to repair and linish; then back to R&S for polishing and plating - a splendid job by all.
Very reasonable price I think - £160 to repair and £300 for stripping, polishing and plating.

Many thanks Kevin, I felt there had to be a good reason so thanks for educating me in this. Great example of why I joined the club. :D Anyway, you don't get much rain in Wales do you?

Thanks again,
MalcP.
