Honda C50 when I was 14, bought as non-runner for £10. In those days I lived in central Blackpool and used to push it through the back alleys to the back of Bloomfield Road football ground where I could get on the old central railway line. The lines had been removed about 10 years previously so it was a good dirt track that you could ride all the way to the M55. It's now a road and big car park.
First road bike when I turned 16 was a Motobecane Mobylette that I swapped a fishing rod for! It was pretty quick, mainly because it weighed nothing, but very uncool.
Then an NVT Easy Rider bought for £40. The threaded part of the gearbox output shaft had sheared off, so I just blagged a used Fizzy gearbox sprocket off a mate and welded it to the stub. Worked a treat. This was basically a step thro' moped which NVT fitted a fibreglass dummy tank, sport seat and fly screen to try and compete with the Fizzies and AP's. It wasn't much quicker than the Mobylette but it had a clutch and 4 speed gearbox so moving in the right direction.
Next a Baja Brown FS1E.
Then I turned 17 and first proper bike, an RD200DX and the world of HP. Wow it felt fast, for a few weeks. Good wheelie machine in the days when I had some bottle, got me two endorsements for driving without due care and attention. The second time I wheelied past a dawdling car and looked right, straight at a police car parked in a side road. He didn't believe me when I said the clutch lever slipped out my hand.
Finally when I was 18 I got my first KH250, cheap but it was a knacker. The gear change return spring had broken, so on every down change you had to lift it up first. It regularly jumped out of second gear so it was safer to go first to third. The first time I opened it up to about 60mph there was a large bang and I thought what the hell was that? The centre plug thread had been stripped by the previous owner and it had blown the plug out! Despite all this I bought another one and used the knacker for spares. I bought other bikes but I loved the KH, it was my regular ride to work for about 15 years. I sold it in a moment of madness to fund a GPz600R.

OMG. I've just realised I've never had a decent bike. The most I paid for any bike on my list was £400, most were under £100. Even the 500LC was a write off. :(

Got me thinking - the years of manufacture are more or less right:

1963 Honda 50 - field bike
1973 Yamaha FS1E - written off
1972 Garelli Tiger Cross - blew it up twice
1977 Honda CJ250T - what can you say!
1977 Suzuki GT500A - wrote it off
1973 Yamaha RD350A - great bike once I put the carb slides in the right way round
1972 Triumph T120 650 Bonneville - cracked it's piston in half
1975 Honda CB500T - ex insurance right off rebuild
1978 Honda CB750F1 cafe racer - good bike
1979 Honda CB900FZ - quick bike in its day but used to get into tank slappers at about 125 mph...
1974 Yamaha RD350B cafe racer - tuned to beyond an inch of its life, Stan Stephens heads etc. Properly fast
1982 Suzuki GS1100G - ex Suzuki road test bike so quicker than it was supposed to be. Great high speed tourer. Had for years
1975 Kawasaki H1E - took a lot or sorting but once I got it right it was a good machine - kept it for 12 years
1976 Rickman Honda CR750 - absolutely standard. Should have kept it. Horrible to ride though. Too slow.
1982 Rickman Kawasaki Z900. Wiseco 1075, yoshi cams, gas flowed etc etc Sprinted in 1990s. 10.8 quarters. Still got it.
1971 Bultaco 250 trials bike - got into twin shock trials for a while
1933 Royal Enfield 250 Model B side valve - brilliant little thing - 4 BHP!
1930 Triumph 500 NSD side valve
1925 Triumph 500 model P side valve
1925 BSA 1000 V twin - real challenge to ride - block brakes!!!!
1985 Honda XLR 250 - brilliant
2003 Harley Davisdon 830 Sportster - auction prize...
2005 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster - coz the 830 was too slow
2007 Harley Davidson Street Bob 1600 - coz the 1200 was too slow...short shot vance and Hines pipes, fuel pack - loudest bike I have ever owned!
2007 Buell Lightning Long - coz the 1600 was too slow!!! brilliant and underrated bikes - wish I'd kept it ...
2008 BMW R1200S - another great bike - quite rare factory cafe racers. Only 123 BHP but go like hell. Sold it - damn..where it was legal to do it would do rock steady indicated 155mph with full panniers and tank bag..
2012 Triumph GT Sprint 1050. Hated it - don't think the sports tourer concept works
1960 Triumph T100A 500. The one with the "bathtub" enclosures. Two tone black / cream and very original. Love it.
1973 Kawasaki H1A - that's why I'm here!
2014 Triumph Explorer 1200 - 15 countries in 1 1/2 years!
2016 Triumph Explorer 1200 - the one with the active suspension - easily best bike I've ever ridden. You can ride it 10 hours a day for a week and still be able to walk at the end..
1965 Kawasaki J1T. 85cc disc valve. Rebuild about 50% done

I've definitely missed some - as you can see if it's got two wheels it's fine by me

Can't believe I've owned so many triumphs......
