.....on best way to clean inside of silencers before replating. Have tried caustic in varying strengths with little improvement

Hopefully they will be a bit lighter too

The platers should be able to make up a special solution to totally remove all carbon.Leigh polishers in manchester stripped mine and they were as clean inside as out.They are now also featherweight and the bike performs and sounds very crisp...Adrian

Thanks Adrian, I have yet to decide where I am going to send them to be done.

I managed to find an article in CB magazine from 07, they were restoring a H1A and that was mentioned.

We have a big electrolating company here in Nottingham but they are so awkward and very arrogent

. I will never use them again for anything. Shame really as it is nice to be able to deliver/ collect

I've used these guys in the past with Good results.. also they will talk to you without taking the piss..dont be misled by the appearance of the premises !!!

I'm not doubting your word Roger, but I would not be seen dead at RS plating

I have used them a few times in the past with varying degrees of sucess. On my last visit I was thoroughly pissed off with their work. They polished through a silencer leaving a hole about 3mm across and thought it was ok to chrome the pipe.The rest of the parts were over polished leaving a horrible finish to the chrome. The chrome was also very speckely.

Having said all this from what I can understand RS only do the plating, the polishing is done elsewhere. As had been said many times before "ITS ALL IN THE PREPERATION"

leigh polishing will charge from £150 per silencer to strip,clean,polish and chrome a silencer.They will charge extra if you want it triple chromed.....

When I told a work colleague I might be buying a rough triple as a project he informed me that he knew someone who could get plating done in the Worksop area, I didn't push him on it but can ask him and put the details up if you like bro, obviously I'd want a look at the quality beforehand, but would guess it should be reasonable cos my mate is well picky.

If you are looking for a 'sympathetic' restoration, then quality isn't the end goal, you want someone who will do as you ask not as he wants, too much polishing of your pipes will...

A:/ not look correct as originally done by Kawasaki, and
B:/ make them paper thin, bulge the skin and show the baffles through or even cause them to split in half worst case.

Ivan, it is a minefield, and in general you can only take advice from those who have used various Electro Platers, some of which have experience of 'bike' related products and others don't.
Here is one that was recently used by a mate of mine for some Stinger components, he did say that the items he sent were in relatively good condition prior to plating.
He tells me that the results were very good, (his standards being high)

Its also fairly near to your location of Nottingham, so maybe you could call by and check em out.

Prestige are good ,good prices and nice friendly people to deal with but they will mirror finish everything, they have done most of my Chroming in the past but when it came to the S1 restoration, I simply couldn't let them loose on it.

Vernon Moss in Brighouse is more expensive but will do what he is asked to do and nothing more.

I have some stuff to go on now. Recommendation is always the best way to go in my opinion especially when its virtually irreplaceable parts.

This forum is a valuable resource to us all, I have learnt a lot from the people on here and would struggle without it.
