Looking at the pictures I can only see 2 Carburetors so I guess each one must have fed both cylinders? There appears to be a starter motor slung underneath the engine(you can see it in the reflection of the underside of the engine) and it looks like the rear brake shoes were operated by hydraulics. I wonder where the oil pump was located...

The thing is Sam that I would possibly buy a kettle. But the square four Kawasaki just doesn't get my juices going. Maybe its just me.

It wouldn't have sold in great numbers when released. Rg500s and RD500s didn't sell tOO many, but look at them now; price wise, and what folk have done with them "hot ridding " in the past.
Imagine a square four Triple Kawa in a ZXR rolling Chassis with Spannies etc. VROOOMMM!!!!

10400 RG. 500 built don't know how many RG 400 were built and they'ren't included on the 10400. But the two engines are very different not from conception but from parts which aren't interchangable.
What we have hear about the square four: engine less powerfull than H2 and heavier.
Won't be a succeful model.
But listen to me, if someone wants give one to me: I would take it, say thanks you... And ride it

It was designed for the touring market, and probably heavier than a kettle. HP wasn't supposed to be great either. As far as hopping up, would be in the same boat as the Suki kettle guys, fighting off weight, and still a piston port.
