bike insurance for none uk resident

I have had my four 70s bikes on a classic policy with Footman James for the best part of 15 years. I am lending one to my Canadian friend to do the MC Piston run with us in Spain in June. Footman James & every other big company I tried refused to offer insurance. After 3 days trying I found Lynbrook Insurance that fixed him up as a name driver on my policy. Phil

For the last few years I have added the Norwegian guys as named riders to my policy with Peter James with no problem. I seem to remember it was quite pricey at £30 ish for 3 days.

I have to say that I like the U.S. way of doing this, ANYONE is insured for your vehicle as long as they have a licence and your permission

Mmmmm. That sounds like a nice BIG juicy loophole for people with a bad driving record to be able to get out on the road with impunity.

I got rear ended on my bike last week - 'protected no claims bonus' in place, 'not at fault' provisionally detailed by insurer (smacked into whilst waiting innocently at a roundabout) - unfortunately my renewal is due at the begining of May..- the result of this is a £270 increase in my premium as, due to the case being 'pending', I am an 'unknown quantity'

I asked what was the point in 'protected no claims bonus' and they went silent!

Well don't claim through your insurance company,
advise them of the incident , and tell them not to act on your behalf as you claiming directly against the other party .

That is good advice Barrie - I was given the option and phoned C.N. to get their opinion as to what I should do. Being fair, they did take their time to explain things but could not make the decision for me of course. At the end of the conversation it appeared that due to my accident being 'a text book case' the final decision rested upon - do you want it dealt with by us straight away, or wait for what could be six months for the third party insurers to sort out?

I made a mistake by going through my own insurance company for sure....lesson learnt :

All you need is them to admit fault, or at least prove fault, give them a short time to inspect ,get a quote for the repairs , give them a short time to respond, if no joy, tell them you will have to hire a car, blah blah.
You soon get a result ,and YOU are in control !
