Unless they have been substantially altered ROG
I will give them a ring and tell them what you did to a UK H1D (one of only 20+ imported)

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
Fail to see the logic in this. Just had an old campervan (1974) in for MOT. It must have had a couple of bent tests previously because there's no way it could have passed last year. Needs 2 - 3 grands worth of welding. One chassis leg needs completely replacing. This pile of crap could still be on the road without inspection under this new system. There's still old bangers out there - they're not all pristine classics.
My own bikes NEED an MOT once a year - it's the only time I service them.

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
There's no change to law as regards roadworthiness.
The risk assessment the Government did accepted that this reduction in MOT testing could increase road casualties by 2 seriously injured or killed per year. They thought that the majority of classic vehicle owners were responsible people who looked after their cherished machines and only rode or drove them short distances to shows or to the MOT station.
The MOT can be absolute crap - my Kawa GT750 passed for 2 years having had a swinging arm repaired with car body filler (Previous owners work and I only found it when touching up some other rust! I replaced it asap as I didn't want to find out its structural strngth the hard way).
You can still have your bike MOT'd on a voluntary basis if you want that 2nd pair of eyes or independant inspection.
You might find that buyers will want an MOT though.
At my last MOT the tester verified it was the correct bike, "a lovely one just like he had back in the day", it's mileage and that it had a front and back wheel.
On the other hand a few years back I took my car to Halfrauds for a service and MOT. They did the service and then failed the car on seat belts as the rear seat middle belt was tucked under the cushion. Twats. It then passed when I lifted the cushion up and pulled the belt out. (they weren't, they said, allowed to do that?)

Oh I'm not complaining - it suits me fine, I just can't see the motivation for it from their side. I can only assume that the law makers have a significant collection of classic vehicles between them.

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
Well, maybe they will start doing roadside inspections,
It's only going to take a couple of fatalities and a few accident investigations with proof that the vehicles involved weren't up to the required standard and we could all be off the road for good!
The original legislation came from the "European Parliament " , it is only being implemented by the British Govenment

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
i vaguely understand that " Historic " vehicles in some European Countries are technically only allowed on the road, to travel to pre-arranged classic events. ?? Rather than , again , technically, be used for everyday transport.Barrie wrote:Well, maybe they will start doing roadside inspections,

That`s not a route we want to go down !!
However , on the bright side. as our Historics are motorcycles, we are more likely to be the victim of a road traffic accident . And as long as our numbers go into their computer system ok , I doubt they`ll be checking our brake light works !!

I was trying to think what advantage there would be to the government in actually 'giving' us something. The above sort of thing crossed my mind but I was not aware that it was already happening in some places. Bet your bottom dollar that this is their long term aim

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
They probably still need to go for a test , they are not registered ,so are not a historic vehicle
Also they probably need to have a the numbers checked / corroborated

Re: MOT EXEMPTION
Just got this reply from The Ministry.
It is already the case that the owner of an exempted vehicle may submit it for a voluntary MoT. Cars constructed or first registered before 1960 are already exempt from MoTs and some owners do submit their vehicles for a voluntary test. This will continue after next May, when vehicles over 40 years old are exempt.
