Just got this reply from The Ministry.

It is already the case that the owner of an exempted vehicle may submit it for a voluntary MoT. Cars constructed or first registered before 1960 are already exempt from MoTs and some owners do submit their vehicles for a voluntary test. This will continue after next May, when vehicles over 40 years old are exempt.

So , I'd they fail the test, do you need to correct the faults and get it re-tested as proof ?

Or is it classed only as an advisory thing , and you can pretend to have fixed them and merrily carry on riding ??

You can carry on riding but if you get stopped by the old bill or have an accident it will show up on the computer. If you haven't rectified the faults you're in trouble. Unroadworthy and no insurance to mention but 2.

That will definitely be the case. Although it`s only in recent years that the DVLA have begun to accept that the VOSA mot man can be trusted !!
The muppets are increasing the number of bikes they send out Inspectors too again though. To check the Frame numbers and bikes Identity. All at taxpayers cost od course........oh daqmmit. Bet they`ll start introducing a new " Inspection " Fee when they think of it. Barstewards.!!!
