Ivan's jet kit
Gentlemen
HID standard carbs, standard pipes, standard airbox.
Worth £200?
I have read various feedback, would like some from folk who have fitted them
Thanks in advance.

Re: Ivan's jet kit
Since I bought my H2c the ivan's jet kit was the best buy after the Lakeland ignition replacement for the CDI units. Transformed the bike totally and makes a bit of piece of mind when you have future problems.( 'At less it isn't the needles and jets!)

Fitted Ivans to 2 h2s and my H1d. Can't say enough good words about them. In fact the set i fitted to the H1d has trans formed the bike totally. Well worth the cost, you will not be disappointed.

Re: Ivan's jet kit
I fitted an Ivans kit to my H2C, it made a big improvement.
I found that following the instructions made my bike run very rich & gave
poor fuel consumption, You may need to tinker with the jetting a bit for best running.
The £246 cost is not so bad, i have paid £300 for new jets & needles for my ZR1100
from Kawasaki.

In what way has it imporved your D`s performance/behaviour ??Nigel S wrote:Fitted Ivans to 2 h2s and my H1d. Can't say enough good words about them. In fact the set i fitted to the H1d has trans formed the bike totally. Well worth the cost, you will not be disappointed.
I know that the kit can iron out the surging on H2s.
But I`ve never considered it needed on an H1. The 500s don`t surge . ?
I would imagine a 5 step needle will make the throttle response a bit smoother . But surely it`s either just on or off with an H1 ??!!

Re: Ivan's jet kit
Not trashing Ivans kits but on an H1, you'd be better to lengthen the intake rubbers then anything else including some magical kit. There was a bunch of experimenting done with dyno testing that pointed to increased torque & rideability at lower revs w/o giving anything away up high.

Happy to potter at low revs or go like a banshee at the top but feck all inbetween. 22mpg no matter what I tried riding style or gearing.
With Ivan's 36mpg and a dollop of mid range. No more dropping right down the box when in the hills (not tree stump pulling harley stuff but miles better).

It will Kenny! A lot of the KTOG guys have bought it and really liked the difference on the H2!

I have an Ivans kit on my H1E, using his suggested set up for standard with, K&N filter & snorkel, good low and mid but less so top end. What set up are you running. I'm thinking about the next jet up without snorkel.
Cheers,
Ross

Go and look at the plugs, it might give you a clue.

Re: Ivan's jet kit
Did a plug chop using 105 mains , standard airbox with K&N filter and no snorkel with new plug, WOT through the gears, very lean. Went back to same setup but with snorkel which gives the nice low and mid range.

Re: Ivan's jet kit
This thread has come just at the right time as i won the bidding on Ebay for the unopened box of magic' Ivan's needles for my H2
should have them in place late October so as to hopefully cure 10 years of bucking and surging,
Will post when tried out
Winning bid £220.00

Re: Ivan's jet kit
Just to add some balance, my h2 still has an issue having fitted Ivans. At low throttle but at high rpm, one cylinder appears to lag (or lead) the others. Ive spent many hours trying to balance the slides and tweeking ign timing. It may be an unrelated issue but still the issue persists. Next task is new aftermarket coils as one has been siliconed on the ht lead and its a relatively cheap thing to try!. Another option im thinking of trying is going back to stock carb bits to see if the problem goes away. A leak test is also on the agenda.
Having said all that, it runs lovely normally. Surging isnt totally cured but the unequal pickup may be adding to surging!

Re: Ivan's jet kit
Yep, early H2's had chrome plated brass slides , later carbs have standard anodised aluminum slides, so if any of the slides have missing plating that's a sure sign that there is wear. I replaced mine years ago, I got them from motocarb

Re: Ivan's jet kit
After trying new coils/plugs/plug caps, no better, still that lag from one cylinder from idle upwards.
Stripped each carb and all passages look clear inc the pilot jets. They had been ultrasonically clean twice in the last few years.
I also checked there were no leaks on the inlet manifolds and chose to ignore comments like crank seals or worn slide (££££). I also had a baffle plate missing from one exhaust so wondered if this was the problem but there was no easy fix for this unless I bought some spannies.
Anyway, I bit the bullet and removed the ivan kit and went back to the original setup.
The transformation was immediate, the bike had its mojo back even wheelying unintentionally when pulling out of a junction! Also the pick up from idle was as it should be ie all three cylinders playing together nicely. It felt like it did when I first got the H2, scary quick.
Downside was the surging was back. I plan to try making the idle richer (float height, idle screws, pilot jet) to minimise this. Im wondering if my old pilots (35's) are coated so are not in spec now? Ive have some new 35.0 and 37.5 jets in the ivan kit so will try these. Failing this I prefer to live with the surging and just keep the throttle open than how the ivan kit performed!!!
Its a shame, having spent some 250 quid on the ivan kit ive persevered and tweeked every setting over the last 3 years. There are too many people saying how good they are but for me, it just didn't gel. Don't get me wrong, it ran reasonably well in the end and surging was better but it also (to me) removed some of the H2 character to the point where I found it less fun to ride. There may be a second hand ivan kit for sale on ebay soon!

Re: Ivan's jet kit
When I built my H1D I installed Ivans jet kit from the start. Love the way the rides revs all the way to redline in every gear.
Don't know what it was like before but could not have been this good.
Next step replace the standard pipes for High speeds.
