DVLA again

End of May I taxed my H1 which had been on SORN for 3 years as I have had no time to change the log book to the Historic Status and I was desperate to ride it again.

So today I got a letter from the DVLA explaining in a nice way that my vehicle has now Historic Status. Enclosed was the new amended log book and a cheque refunding the Road Tax I paid.

Had my H2's first time application refused today. Not, as i expected, because the dating latter was three years old but because they didn't like the C&E389.... EVEN THOUGH I had jumped through all the hoops of getting it stamped at HMRC Dover....and dated 13th April 2013.
I guess my mistake was not forwarding a copy of HMRCs covering letter stating "You should now be able to register this vehicle with the DVLA as they will accept form C&E 389 forms stamped before 15th April 2013"

Clearly nobody bothered to tell DVLA ....or at least the numpty processing my application......grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Had mine returned yesterday because I did not send them the non uk registration certificate or the export certificate.
I don`t have the non registration certificate ,Rick`s tells me not all states issue them and google says vehicles over 20 years old don`t need one. Regards to the export certificate he`s never been asked for one and doesn`t have a clue what one is.

Standard letter from them, which you are expected to read between the lines for the real meaning Eric.

amazingly , nowadays you need to provide a covering Letter " explaining " to them that you are using a Dating letter because you do not have a " non UK registration document " you see , today they are incapable of working that out for themselves !!!

( p.s. best also tell them that Kawasaki refused to provide a d.l. also. for whatever made up reason you care to provide. As another of their rules is you have to first try to get a dating letter from the Manufacturer if they stll exist.........duh !! )

Sent a completed V55; NOVA ref; VJMC dating letter; MOT etc. for my Japanese import Suzuki RGV250 to the DVLA on Friday July 20th. Got a V5 back today; less than a week not counting the weekends and postage time : D.

As half expected the first registration on the H2 was bounced back by DVLA for the second time.....the dating letter was 2 1/2 years old (I found out too late there is a 12 month limit.... WHY??) and annoyingly it did take them three weeks and one day to refuse it.......
However, not only was the date wrong but it seems they are now demanding a lot more information...........
Here is the paragraph from the refusal letter....
Dating certificates provided by vehicle owners or enthusiast clubs must contain the date/year that the vehicle was manufactured and must explain what source information that was used to determine the date of manufacture. (their bad grammar not mine !). They must also include an explanation of how the source information was linked to this particular vehicle(e.g. either by inspection or photographs and rubbings). Dating certificates must be originals issued within the last 12 months, written in English on letter headed paper and must clearly state the date of issue, vehicle Identity Number (VIN) or chassis number and the vehicles make and model.

Interesting about the "in English " bit.......considering this letter is instead of the original foreign docs. ...if they were in Chinese, Japanese or Russian or whatever.......would you have to send a translation?.....and would the translator have to be stamped, approved and certified to DVLA standards...hmmmmmmmmmm
