Changing a Q plate to an age related plate.

Post by Ogri211 »

Has anyone successfully got a Q plate on a bike changed to an age related plate. The reason I ask is I have just bought a kawasaki from a mate that is Q plated, it has not been on the road since 1996, I am going to apply for a v5 using the frame number as I have told Swansea that I bought the bike without any paperwork, the guidelines say that a Q plate is issued to a vehicle that you cant determine the age, I know that the bike is a 1980 by the frame number and I believe it was Q plated in 1985 because the engine was damaged beyond repair much the same as a newer bike now would be classed as a cat C or D but now still retains its original reg. I am hoping that they cant find any trace of the plate and tell me to re- register the bike when I get it mot'ed I would be grateful to hear if anyone has had any success with this.

I had to buy a US imported frame to get shot of the Q plate.. the 'imported' bike was then registered in the UK.

I thought a Q plate is like a one way ticket, vehicle can not be taken off it full stop

That is just as I understand it - no way back Jose - and you will need a new frame number

It is a one way street for a frame, but the Registration numbers go with the frame (number), so a new frame = a different reg..

In my old frames case, it was a B/C frame but stamped with a number which should have gone with a 72 frame, the bike had been built from parts in 1987 with a C Engine and B Bodywork.

You’re going to have some fun with that.they were hell bent on wanting to put a q plate on my h2. I ended up paying £50 to get the paper work from Kawasaki japan stating it was a 1974 bike.

I got word back today from HMRC giving me a NOVA number for the imported rolling chassis I have, so looks as if I will be using that, I dont think there will be a big demand for my Q plated Z1300 frame, I can see it gathering dust.
