JB weld , have done it (not myself) on my 69 H1 10000 miles before nothing moves or breaks since.

Right Tony what i would do is carefully grind back to bare metal with a dremel the absolute minimum to expose where the split is and then find the best welder you can and get him to tig weld the split using a stainless steel filler rod.Then polish this back up with metal polish and brush on some hy-cote clear high temp paint as protection.A friend of mine welded a kh400 silencer back on to my s3 downpipe using this method and it is hard to see where it has been welded and it has not gone rusty.Hope that helps...Adrian
