Rick.......since moving to the coast and only a couple of hundred of yards.....yes yards not fukin meters from the North Sea I have found out what "Real" stainless steel is all about.....at the vey least it needs to be A316 marine grade.......even that tarnishes though. The fabrication guy .....a biker that's doing the balcony steel and glass with me says there are 2 more higher grades....the name eludes me at the moment, but its used on filtration plant on oil rigs.....A2 ......don't go there.....

I bought a box of about 20 mirrors a long while ago from an old dealer some with the flag on some without to fit my old W1's
What i have worked out is that the first type with the bent top arm (pic 1) fitted the '66/67 W1 only and was part # 56003-002 LH
and there was a #56002-012 for the RH which i am looking for. These mirrors were probably fitted to the pre'67 Meguro models.
In 1967/68 they replaced them both with 56002-011 which had the flags on but fitted both sides and a dome nut for adjustment (pic 2).
In 1969 Kawasaki dropped the flag logo altogether and the W and A series had full painted tanks with Kawasaki on them instead of the flag logo badges.
The same year they dropped the flag emblem from the mirrors and they became part# 56001-005 (pic3) (same mirror no logo) which would be correct for the early H1
(unless the dealers used earlier ones from stock). Now there were 2 types of these , one type has the dome nut for adjustment and another type has a cross head screw.
I have 2 types and an empty box with part# 56001-003-2 so the other one with the cross head screw could be this number , anybody know ?

Good for you.

When I had my H1a new in 1971 bolts broke regular and things fell off and I used whatever would fit. Spares were just about non existent from that shower of shit Agrati as they had to get everything from Holland.

Malc.....is the club not rich enough to make some mirror heads???? Tooling would be the big expense I know but after that bang bang bang.......on a press I mean....

This is how restoration has gone with many peoples obsession to detail overcoming coming all sense of reasonable cost.
The ebay watch in the magazine shows the lengths some people will go to to get that exclusive part.
I set myself a limit of $100 for a "flag "mirror for my 69H1 but the only one I found had a starting price of a $100 with a BIN price of $250! It was poorly listed so I gambled that no one else would find it and paid the $100 starting bid. The last original mirror (no flag) I put a pal on to at a local dealer (NOS) was £52 maybe 6/7 years ago?
Im not sure how much a repro handle bar mounted mirror is now ?

I felt I did the whole 69H1 at a reasonable cost swapping parts in many cases that had cost me little in the USA for services provided and for parts.
I documented it in the magazine and having sold off a few more parts since (cables) etc the whole Bike inc purchase of the bike and restoration cost me just over £5000.

I hadnt restorated a bike since I finished the 350 American Eagle in 2008.

Only bikes I intend to restore in the future is the "Tony Foale" framed H2 which is mostly done and sat in the loft in boxs in the garage.Ive owed it since 2005 having paid £1800 for it and the H2R which Ive now collected most of the missing (expensive) parts for.

me too was a S2A with brand new S2 exhausts the guy bought it for the exhausts, swap with his early S2 pipes in VGC fited on his 71 S2 then sold the S2A with early S2 pipes to me.
