Age related plate
HI
Who do I need to apply to , to get a letter regarding the age of an h1a 500 I have just bought.
Its a european model so was first regsitered in the uk in 1978, I want to apply to the Dvla for an age related plate
for 1971 which is the date of manufacture at the Dvla.
If this is the case do I still need a dating letter. hmmm
how much would this be
thanks

Re: Age related plate
If it has been registered in the UK before, chances are that DVLA still have a record and should be able to do a search from the frame number. I think a few people have had success by simply applying for a replacement V5. Put frame number in your V62 and leave registration blank, but include a covering letter explaining that the registration has been lost. If they can't find it they will just send your cheque and application back.
If it has changed hands since the 80's even better, it will be computerised so should make their job easier. If it's been on the computer records then you can sometimes get the reg from a HPI check. I have done this a couple of times and completed a V62 and £25 cheque, then received a V5 a few weeks later.
If all else fails, then it's a new full application for age related plate with your dating certificate from Rick. But it will cost you more and be much more painful dealing with DVLA....

Re: Age related plate
Sorry, just re-read your post and realised that you want to change the existing 1978 reg. Think you may have problems there, but as Sam suggested, message Rick .......

IF you can find One, just copy then relevant page from the Glasses guide that dates the bike.
"Official2 Sources are not allowed to redate bikes (Unless they have recently changed the rules) - They will only accept data from the wholly inaccurate Glasses Guide

Why not just buy a cheap personal plate. You can buy one quite cheaply. Less hassle.

Re: Age related plate
That may not be a bad idea Sam, but you have limited choice with an older registration style, so may be expensive?SAM wrote:Why not just buy a cheap personal plate. You can buy one quite cheaply. Less hassle.

Re: Age related plate
I've got an age related plate for sale off my drag bike.
May have to bend the rules a little but it could work
PTB 2 OK
Or PTB 20K

Hi,
You can't put a car plate on a motorbike, only from another bike, but you can the other way round.

I thought that too, so checked and found it is all back to the way it was with easy transfers in both directions again.Klawsuc wrote:Hi,

Re: Age related plate
Thanks Guys
rang Dvla and spoke to a very helpful lady, firstly she put the bike on historic tax so no money to pay from now on
she also rang the section that deal with this and they said it was a bit strange but to send the V5 in with a covering letter
and they would look into it.
might let things improve a bit first but sounds promising,
