Not triple related

Post by malc87 »

I called in at Ford a few days ago to price up a brand new van.
Ive always fancied a"sport" model and whilst I knew they were expensive I wasn't expecting this

As Im retired , no longer VAT registered, and it no longer comes off Tax which was always my main reason for buying new vans the jury is still out.................!!

I would never buy a new van because of the ridiculous depreciation and the VAT.
2 year old ex motability window vans or WAV's are good value. They don't do silly miles or get abused like work vans and NO VAT.
Oh, and you can take them to the tip because they are classed as cars, really pees them off when they come running over to tell you no commercial vehicles allowed

I just made the last payment on my 2018 Transit Custom Limited. Total paid £26,000.
We Buy Any Van offered me £24,018 yesterday.
Admittedly its low mileage at 20,000 but I think its held its value well.
No need to replace now I'm retiring, it will see me out :D

I agree with others.... anew van is an expense too far... I've only bought nice used vehicles for years now....making sure they have a good warranty and nicely specified (like an ex- demo)

Here ya go Malc

Vans are making crazy money as are cars in the auctions, in most cases selling over book .

My 65 plate transit custom has as I said above has done 49,000 miles.
It would have done high 30,000s but for the last 15 months my son Iain has been using it in his job as a delivery courier
Things you do it help your kids!
He has put around 10,000 on it!!
Over the last 15 months we have spent around £1000 on it ,New battery, front, discs/brake pads, rear brakes, service,CV joint rubbers and last week a CV joint.
In addition we upgraded it with 4 alloy wheels with almost new tyres.(£395)
It was a better option that just renewing all the tyres which it needed.
We split the maintenance costs between us 50/50
I never financed my vans when I was working ,just buying them outright and I paid £18250 including the VAT in January 2016.
It was a "Pre reg" ,on an at the time, current 65 plate but ford had registered it in October 2015.
Im guessing it was for "cash back" as it had no miles on it.
As I said above its worth £12,000 to £15,000 but I would expect to get 13K +(ish) due to the low mileage.
In reality even with what we have spent its cheap motoring!
We don't own a car as Julie no longer drives due to her MS and Iain above wrote off her car about week after she gave up when he borrowed it!
Incidently he was on his own car insurance so"third party only" on ours but as a car pulled out in front of him the other insurer paid out.
The jury is MORE than out on buying a new transit sport , even though I can afford to buy it outright, as I just don't think I could Justify spending that sort of money on a van ,nice as they are.
Not VAT registered anymore and no tax advantages with it probably/possibly means its no :(
44K for a bloody van is serious money!!

My wheelchair Peugeot van is 11 years old now, still on original battery! I bought it for £12K at 18 months old with 8k miles on it (now (40k) and it's only had normal service items and one CV joint. Very cheap motoring.
I was thinking about getting a newer ex-motability Tourneo Custom, but the Peugeot just sailed through it's MOT again with no advisories, so may as well keep hold of it for another year :D

There are three 2012 models on eBay at the moment £7-8k. All higher miles though.
