First MoT for a US Import.

Post by Treeman »

Hi All

I have a nearly MoT ready project bike (not a triple), that does not quite hit the 40 years exemption - I know that you can ride bikes (or cars) to the MoT station without a current MoT, as long as you are insured, however, what is the case if your bike is not yet UK registered (but insured on the frame number) - do you have to van it or push it to the testing station, or can you legally ride it there?

Thanks in advance.

Clive.

Hi Clive,

I agree that you can run a car or bike to a MOT station that has run out off MOT and Tax as long as you are insured and have booked before setting off but the question I am asking is how would a car/bike pass an MOT without a number plate, IMHO I feel it would be wise to talk to your MOT station and find out where you stand before booking.

Hi Gary. Get the MOT tester to book the MOT on the frame number. I.E the frame number as the registration number..

Must admit I did take my bike to the station in a van as I had no plate. But you should by rights be able to ride the bike there without a number plate.

Thanks for all your replies chaps - it's much appreciated. I will ride it around there after booking it in on the frame number. Last time I had this situation I pushed it around as it was a much smaller bike that time  They were happy to sort it via the frame number on that occasion as suggested.

We only usually see Police around here if they are shooting past at 50mph with all sirens blazing or circling several hundred feet above us anyway......

Gary - I will hopefully see you at Paignton Bike Night some time, although I am missing the first two at least due to being stuck up here with work

I've rode a few to the MOT station with no number plate and booked in on the frame number
Each time I was praying to get stopped by the bizzies, but as usual there's never a copper around when you want one.
Not that I would have been a smart arse to police or anything!!
