This may be old news to some but I thought I’d share anyway. I’m nearing completion on rebuilding a H1F that I bought in bits and found that the retaining strap for the oil tank was missing. After searching the net it seems that these are a bit rare and a bit expensive.
I found a company called Butser rubber ltd in Hampshire that stock a 230mm square buckle strap that does the job perfectly and cost just over 6 quid plus vat. Also after talking to Felicity aka Fizz, I found out that they do lots of rubber parts, seals, gaskets etc and do a lot of work for a heritage aircraft trust.
She also told me that they can reverse engineer parts from a sample or a technical drawing and make new ones which could be useful for some rubber parts that seem impossible to get. Obviously these parts initially are a bit expensive as it requires making a mould but if enough people wanted a particular part then the cost could be shared.
Maybe something to think about- Angus
