Hello and greetings , I recently aquired a KH400 and am here to pick up any info I can to help me with it. My first problm is starting it. The first go I had I managed to get it going but didn't warm it up. So i thought I'd be able to get it going again and warm it up and actually ride it! Ignition on, petrol on choke at max kick - no luck. Many kicks later nothing really happening. I have yet to have another proper go at it due to weather and work but I think I am going to try less choke this time.. Any Tips or help gratefully received.
I remember being stunned by a display of the triples at the Highland Show by Better bikes back in the 70's , it has taken me that long to get one!

Welcome in John.
Re starting, every bike has it's own little ways, tricks we've forgotten down the years, since modern bikes start easily on the button now.
You'll figure it out.

First thing, clean out the carbs. Get new plugs, and definitely drain the tank and get fresh fuel !

Welcome John, they can be temperamental old buggers..
The bikes too..
If it's been standing unused then cleaning Plugs and carbs is a good start, at the very least check for sparks, pong of petrol etc..{/color]

Hi John
Welcome
Is the KH points or CDI
May be a dodgy low voiltage coil, if its stood standing and full of damp
If points, take them out, spray with wd and check gaps
Check for inline fuel filters, could be blocked if sludge from the old fuel
The best thing with triples, they test your patience, but well worth it in the end
Good luck
Cheers

Re: New Member
Typical starting problem with the KH400 is the low speed charge coil in the stator.
It will need to be replaced or rewound.
Check resistance values as stated in the w/shop manual.

Ditch the Haynes manual if you intend to do any work on the engine. Download the Kawasaki workshop manual here... viewforum.php?f=40
Lots of useful info in the Workshop Resources section... viewforum.php?f=29
