On my camera it records in avi format if I remember rightly, so you end up with big files. Talking gigabytes.

I used to just transfer via the USB cable and it took ages. If you have a really old computer with USB1 rather than USB2 it will be even worse.

Quickest way I have found is just to take the SD card and plug it straight into the computers card reader. Much quicker transfer rate but probably not an option on an older computer.

wind noise is the biggest problem, tape a sponge or plaster over the microphone hole its the vortices within the hole that creates the noise

yes card reader is the way, and cant expect to fiddle with vid on a basic computer.

I am looking for something that will capture the sound also without the windnoise.

That is the problem with the majority of these cameras, as Simon says, a bit of sponge or even pvc tap may do the trick, but the sound quality will never be much good.

The best I got was with my camcorder recording from a bullet cam and a separate microphone stuffed into my rucksack, but very bulky and wires everywhere! If you use a camcorder with a bullet cam you need one with DV input, not so many about these days.

I was advised against using a sponge windguard, a fur windguard is better apparently.
It has also been suggested that I put a condom over my cam to reduce the wind noise! I'll add a pack of 3 to my shopping list and get the scissors out
