Can anybody recommend where it may be possible to get mufflers chromed please.

Leigh metal polishing in manchester will rechrome pipes.The will need to thoroughly clean the internals though before the platers will allow the pipes in the chrome bath.Including cleaning they charge £180 per pipe excluding down pipes to do this.Very reliable and they will always contact you first if they have any suspected issues.

Thanks Ade, it`s for a friends Yamaha (pipes attached). Not many want to do them because of the pollution. No point in getting anything chromed if you can`t get the mufflers done.

I use prestige plating at Mexborough in South Yorkshire. He did a set of h1 silencers for me at 90 quid each. No worries re cleaning them out he puts them in last before he changes the solution.
you just have to wait a little longer.

So surely that means your pipes are being chromed in a solution that needs changing

Cpme on Simon, you know thats what ALL chromers do with 2 stroke pipes. Reduces the risk of contaminating other items.

I`ve seem Bernie`s pipes, and Prestige know what they`re doing.

Just as a little technical enlightment for us all, the problem with oil and general muck and carbon in an exhaust is not to do with the chroming but rather the nickel which goes on before and is the main coating, the chrome is just a flash which takes about 2 minutes max and is about a 50th or less of the nickel thickness. Chromic acid, which is the main constituent of a chroming solution is such a powerful oxidant that not much in the way of contaminents will bother it, nickel though is a different kettle of fish it is very easily F****d up and at maybe 20 grand to make up a new solution for a large nickel tank you can see why they want them clean as possible inside.

Platers don't often change solutions unless they have a problem with them A because of the cost and B a new plating solution needs to be 'worked in' and generally produces better results the older it gets, bit like me really
