A Trio of triples from 1978

Browsing thro some old photos last night I came across this picture I took on March 26th 1978 at the Transatlantic Trophy meeting ( those were the days!) from Mallory Park . Thought it may interest one or two of you. As most of you will know these are Mick Grants bikes and mechanics. Doesnt look as if they had many tools!

I think The guy on the left is Mick's mechanic, Nigel Everet, he now has restoration business.

Yes thats him, Nigel Everett, I couldnt remember his name !
It may interest you to know that race1 was won by Kenny Roberts, 2nd Pat Hennen , 3rd Barry Sheene. Race 2 : 1st Hennen, 2nd Roberts 3rd Dave Potter.

Found another one, Kork Ballington on what I am sure is his 250 cc machine, again riding through Coppice Wood ( the trees were still all there then!) date was July 9th 1978. You can just make out his 'trademark' shades.

I was probably there! I was at most of the home Internationals in them days, looking after a bike for a rider, Clive Horton. Eventually spannering for him at inters, G.P.s and a couple of trips to Daytona.
Yamaha TZ250, Maxton Yamaha 350, Honda and MBA 125, Cotton 250 (who remembers that in 1980?) then the works Randall Armstrong, also the odd outing on John Newbolds Suzuki RG500. (Appleby Glade Racing)
All in the days of Barry Sheene, Kenny Roberts, Marco Lucinelli, Will Hartog, Steve Parrish et al, oh and a youngster called Randy Mamola!
I was also working one day at a test at Snetterton when this new guy was flying round on a very strange "sit up and beg" Morriwaki Kawasaki, Graeme Crosby!

Hey bbb, this is just for you! I've got hundreds of photos but only 1 of Clive Horton, Silverstone 1977. Ill have to put these photos away I'm getting all nostalgic!

WOW, great shot!!!
Must admit I'm not sure of the bike, it may be a Brader Maico, but Clive will know, unfortunately he's away at the moment.

bbb, I will have to have a ride over when the weather warms up, it wont be on my KH as that will take me some time to finish, but I have got another ride which I darent mention on here!

I did bump into Clive Horton a few years ago at Ron Haslams Race school at Donington, he was doing a bit of instructing, none of the younger guys knew who he was but I collared him at the end of the day and got him to sign my 'certificate', I was well chuffed although looking at it now its just a squiggle it could say anything!

At the risk of becoming boring I thought I would just stick one more pic up, Wes Cooley ( USA ) on a KR750 at Oulton Park Easter 1983 Transatlantic Trophy again.

It looks like a four stroke though with no individual expansion pipes and two cam boxes peeking out??

I went to a couple of the Transatlantic meetings at Brands in the late 70's early 80's. I only had an instamatic type camera in those days so no pics unfortunately. Great racing days they were then, thanks for the pics.

If this is his TT 125 i know who has this bike in his garage

Hey Sam, sorry to disapoint but the TT winning bike from '74? was a Yamaha twin (AS1)? and that pic is a Maico single, the Maico emblem is just about recognisable just in front of the number plate on the fairing, a yellow letter "M" with wings. The bike belonged to the Brader brothers.
Clive remembers the race at Silverstone, he came 19th, passing everyone in the corners only to get blown away down the straights!!!
Would be interested to know more about the bike near you as there seems to be two people that believe they have the TT winning Yamaha!!!!!!!

I remember him lol. He looks about ten in this shot I took at Mallory, probs around 1978 - mind you, I didn't look much older either back then. I reckon we are about the same age

At least I still have my hair ....

Owner of TT winning Yamaha is Peter Ellis. Clubman Champion on TZ250 way back in 70s.
Spoke to Peter last night & Dave Ellis & he went up to get bike with his brother Trevor direct from Clive Horton who was friends with local Guy Peter Satchwell. Trevor raced it first then passed it on to Peter. I have a picture of bike with Trevor on board.
