Arrrrrrrhhhhhhhhgggggg. My H2 hydrolocked today, 2 stroke oil the cause - fooked con rod the result.

Normally, to be on the safe side after a long downtime, I used a syringe and tube to suck out oil from the cases. I sometimes got a bit out saving the village from a 2 stroke fog when it fires up, but I never seemed to get enough to worry about hydrolocking.

Did the right and centre but cos I found nothing didnt bother with the left.

Yep !! the left cylinder had oil in which found its way up into the cylinder once it fired. Still pissed off how close I came to preventing it!!

Well the crank is off to darkest Somerset for Chris Ritchie to do his magic.

Looking at why it happened, I stripped down the check valves in the oil pump outlet lines. The offending cylinders check valve was stuck open with a piece of crud jammed down by the spring. By the time I got the spring/crud out I had distorted it.

Help - Anyone got a spare H1/H2 pump outlet line they will sell or scrap one so I can salvage the spring out of it please? It doesnt matter which one of the three as I can swap the bits.

Thanks in anticipation

My crank is now back and looking perfect thanks to that nice chap Mr Ritchie. Ive had a complete crank rebuild (mains/seals) but kept the two good rods with a used replacement for the bent one.

Chris's service was 2nd to none and the crank was back on my doormat in seven days from posting (which included two bank holidays). Cheers Chris!

cheerio bye tatar, gota engine to build.

Dont ya just hate it when you rebuild the motor, fit it to the frame then discover the kick start aint right. Then you remember that wire loop and the slot in the crankcase that it sits in. Or doesnt cos I forgot. ARRGGGHH

Perils of not building h2 engines for over ten years. You forget these little things

If you ever studied Gynaecology, you might be able to poke (scuse the pun) it home through that little hole if the engine is already back in the frame.

I've done 23,000 as shown by the speedo on Sunday (see pics), but when I built her 11+ years ago I did NOTHING to the business end..

No seals, no bearings, no rings, no nothing, she just went back together with a bit of looking and measuring beforehand.
She had stood for twelve years previous to me firing her up, so all in all I guess I did alright.

I had noticed it was getting a little noisy over the last few weeks/months whatever, but it was more a case of 'hmm is it noisier or is it just my old ears?'
But after Sunday's thrash around I could definitely hear it sounded different, sort of a hollowey, mettally, scrapey noise, louder on overrun at certain revs.

I was hoping for a simple blown gasket as one has been weeping for months now, but when I turned the engine over for the pistons to be travelling down the bore then pressed the tops, they all gave a little click as they dropped just that tiny bit further.

Ah well, I had scraped some coins together for other bike things but looks like it'll have to go on this..

I have a spare crank that just needs seals and bearings so might get either one sorted.. quick! just two weeks and counting....
