+ 2........This is the way it is mr tipping , there are lots more prepared to come if the tents and stuff will; be transported for them and for the safety knowing if something breaks they will get there bike home [remember when u trashed your engine in germany ] we are not all fool proof dude Here here here

coming on the bike with the tent is the way to go, if some guy break a triple we will fond a solution wtht the racing guys who will come with a van

Also I've spoken with Paul as he and Andy look like making the trip, soo it seems that a group of us will be travelling with bikes from here int Lakes.

Bike, tent, vredit card. FFS its only 165 miles from the Port !!!

Some of you lot are trying to plan this like its an Antartic Expedition.

Go get AA 5 star cover if you`re worried about getting home.

Time was we`d have jumped on the bike without adjusting the chain and just GONE !!!!

agree with you Neil, just don't forget to take 2 stroke oil (even if you can expect to find some on petrol stations), fit o ring chain on the bike (unless you prefer adjusted the chain every 300 miles), good tyres, 2 liters of petrol on the saddle just in case (unless you prefer pushing the bike)

I agree, and most classic bike insurance policies have European breakdown cover. Us NW lads were happy to just ride there without backup but if a van is available for luggage and tents it will make the whole trip a bit more enjoyable. I will organise a Northern get together and we can discuss the pro's and con's then.

the club will cover the cost of 2 vans i am sure , you have not broken down abroad yet and limped home

it just gives the back up and ease of return , plus takes all the luggage

what i will do is a flyer for the club mag to be returned to me with a tick of box choice on which route club member chooses
basically north or south .
that way i will send all the northern monkeys to u and the southern shandy drinking poofters i will deal with

Off to the dutch again on Thursday, what we take is shall we say limited for the 2 of us, this is the bike before we set off to hull last year lol :

The ferry from Hull to Rotterdam worked out at roughly £306 this year for the 2 of us and bike, sharing a 4 berth cabin with 2 others. We have Carole Nash European Breakdown, you have to advise them of your dates of travel so they can note it and then they give you a european breakdown telephone number relevant to where you are going. Travel insurance is not cheap £59 for the 2 of us, this is also due to travelling on a bike, we get this from Carole Nash also. E111's are also a need. Documentation we have to take apart from passport and ferry tickets is driving licence, log book and insurance certificate.

Plenty of Euro's in bum bag, the spirit of adventure and your sorted.

Looking forward to it, and Belgium next year

If you put those two rolls one on each side you could load more of Harv's Lingerie as a backrest and 'er indoors could have some armrests.

I have a tale to tell you about blowing my bike up

there where 4 of us who left the campsite on the Sunday morning

me with my bike being stored by a kind German

I was the only one that made the ferry that evening as the others on bikes, spent too long in a market looking at tat and missed the ferry!!

Ray and I have been to lots of rallies in Germany and Holland, we have had seizures, punctures, gennys come loose, bikes stopped charging but we have always got home with the bikes

the above is the exception

in fact Ray Ali and Harv are off the the Dutch rally this weekend with out a van !!

will we need to hire an Artic?

just in case we all break down?

no problem with a back up but... how far do you go?

look at it this way gary
as u know i have made trips abroad on triples and the last one by hook or by crook i got back [thanks to jp]

i myself do not have any concern about riding a triple overseas
BUT there are some that do , with the back up vans it gives you the confidence of knowing that yer tents and clothes will get there and if something breaks yer bike will as well .

even modern bike tours offer this facility , you can travel down through europe with a back up van carrying yer kit and enjoy yer bike as it was built and not with 50kg of luggage on a strap .

think about it u know it makes sense

When all comes to all this is not about whether we have a van or not. Its all about enjoying Kawasaki Triples and celebrating the birth of the H2 with friends from all over the world.

Everyone can make up their own mind how they get there, but the main thing is we get there and back safe and sound and have a bloody good time.
