Im going to opt for this rather than 3 points for being caught in the Van doing 51mph in a 40mph.
it was three lanes wide leaving a motorway , definate revenue collector spot!
still its better to stay on 51 points rather than move up to 54 in my driving career
Anyone done the course????????????
Sounds like a defo to do it if you are given the option Malc.
But better still not to get caught in the first place. Lord knows how but I got my last points aged 24, though have had quite a few sleepless "fortnights" waiting for the inevitable letter that thankfully didn't arrive.
Opt to go on a bike. I did. Fair enough the classroom stuff is boring, but we had a good time on the bikes. The instructor first took me and the 1 other "pupil" for a bacon butty and a brew then said "right lets go for a blast" !!! We had nice afternoons ride in the Trough of Bowland

I have been given the option Hal, 28 days to repley.
Im passing the area where i got caught every day at the moment on my way to site.
Think im the only one that slows down to 40mph
every other vehicle just speeds past me
They must catch thousands here at this spot !
I seen the camera van and looked at the speedo and it was showing 47mph so they must have clocked me the minute it changed from 50mph to 40mph.
Just an area for collecting tax"s ,nowt else.

I have kept the old license clean for quite a while, must be getting on for 9 years since I did my last Ban for speeding ,96mph in a 60mph, on the gixer thousand out in the country.
Not quite as quick as the 125mph in a 70mph on the SP1 the year before that also had me walking and cycling for a bit
I've just been done for 37mph in a 30mph. I've opted for the speed awarness course but not had the paperwork back yet. No idea what the course entails but have been told it costs £85.
Its been 35 years since I was last caught speeding, so that must be 35 years of undetected crime !!
I got the same option for doing 36mph in a 30. The course cost £90.00 which I saw as saying pay us 90 quid or your nicked. I opted to take the points even though I already had some, as I couldn't envisage an afternoon in a classroom being patronised by blokes who were still at school when I passed my test.
Had I attended I'd probably have ended up with a bigger fine for disrupting their 'lesson'.
I got done for 35 in a 30. Having a company car i thought sod it take the points. My wifes car renewal came up and my 3 points put her insurance up 80 quid. She said ok, take him off her insurance. By losing the "family discount" it put her premium up 70 quid. Stuffed either way.
Then carol nash phones up to say my h2 insurance is due (bugger forgot about that). "got 3 points" i says. "Ok that will put the premium up .............. by £3.90". Phew.
In hindsight i should have gone to naughty driver school.
Apparently, if you get caught again by the same police authority within 3 years, they will give you the 3 points from the first time as well as the new points.

I will be having a read of the small print.
When banned the second time my van insurance went from £500 to £1764!.
I said I was banned on a motorcycle which I took a separate test for!
I got flashed in bloody nottingham,Arnold Road, opted for the national speed awareness course only to be told would have to travel to england to do it,took offence to the word national!!
Traveled to Berwick on Tweed, nearly all were from Scotland and as far as Aberdeen.
To be fair, the day did teach me a lot of things i had forgotten and some new things also, also made me aware that if i was to sit all my tests again after 30 odd years,i doubt i would pass them.
So a good thing and I still have a clean licence
Malc do the course. Your insurance will not be affected as its written off. My son did it saved him £1000s on his insurance. Yes its boring. Gotz did course also.
i got done in Mid wales, get this doing 37 dragging a caravan through Bala high st. My car at the time was a nissan 200 SX chipped to 270bhp, they offered me the course in Towyn, no chance in hell of me getting there and back without picking up another 3 points. However I did then get done on my way to see John Edge in Lichfield, and on that occassion. I agree, do the course, its actually quite interesting and the others on the course are quite amusing, I escpecially liked the scooby driver who wheelspan out of the car park when the course was finished.... better than 3 points and fee tea and biscuits....
I used to drink too much, I mean I still drink to much, but I used to as well.
John Allwood
I got done for 38 in a 30 on a bloody 49cc Fantic moped last year
First time ever done for speeding - opted for the speed aware course one evening in Ollerton - £60, no points - no brainer to me
I think there should be a 'Pothole awareness course' for government officials. Each time there is an accident due in part to a substandard road surface council officials should be charged £80.00 (not on expenses) to attend on their day off.
They would be sat down and shown photo's of potholes, then shown photo's of accidents and vehicle damage caused by those potholes, and asked stupidly patronising questions like;
"Who can tell me what is likely to happen when that hole fills with water?"
