there are three zinc finishes on the triples. The clear/silver coloured zinc, the yellow/gold coloured zinc and the drab olive/khaki zinc used on some inlet clamps, pillion pegs and seat latches among other things. The other items are chrome. The only items i have seen which appears to be nickel are the two lock nuts on the fezz type brake light switch.I am sure that somebody else will have more to add on this.

Thanks for the the reply. I was under the impression that the silver and gold finishes were nickel . Being a welder and working with galvanized surfaces on a daily basis I have only ever seen them shiny when just plated then dull/drab after the 'newness' has worn off.I suppose they must do screws on a bike different to a ladder up the side of an oil platform !!!

The finish on motorcycles is 'bright' zinc and is electroplated onto the items, not the same as the hot dip galvanised finish that you see on street furniture and other huge items.

...and the items have usually been polished before plating.

The colours are then added onto the bright plate and give an equally bright coloured finish.
