Can we find out which dealership reg our bikes

Post by Aardvark »

I had a thought over the weekend, can we found out which motorcycle dealership registered our bikes. I am just interested in knowing were my bike came from.

If your bike still carries the original registration number that will indicate which town it was registered in which in turn should narrow down the original selling dealership

I remember there was always an alphabetical listing in the old AA members handbooks Thumbs Up

Just found this :D

My H1D is from Read Titan at Leytonstone, east London. I remember picking it up brand new a little over 40 years ago :D

The list you sent old coney, only seems to go up to 1973/74, my gal was registered in 1976. I sthere another list that may go later. :?
Sam you mentioned the best £5 spent, is that with the dvla or is there a different web site.

Reg plate area codes remained the same all the way up until 2001 so the list Rog gave you would still be valid for your needs :D

I suspect it was quite a small dealership, registering just a single Kawasaki every One or Two weeks, I have had a guess at your complete number and if correct the next bike after yours was a Z900 and the bike before yours a Bronze KH500, what is confusing me is that for 5 numbers either side of yours there is a time span of a few Months, which would indicate to me that the dealer that sold yours was allocated his own batch of reg numbers beginning "OWO" :?

Dealers would be given batches of numbers rather than registering bikes directly onto the system individually as the modern digital age facilitates. The order and when they use these nubers up was left in their hands. For instance you had an H2C (now in Texas still?) registered one digit away from mine (724P against 725P) though mine was on the road in August 75 and yours in December 75 yet with the lower number.

Very true about dealers having a "batch" of numbers, I well remember being given a choice of number from a list of available numbers, in fact I still remember one of them, YJA567T. (Sorry but 'twas a Honda)
