Harleys have always been fantastic at 0-25 acceleration. No space for much more than that there.

I reckon it must just take too much skill to make best use of the Honda's torque but with the old hog you can more or less dump the clutch and it's all there.
I like the old fella's nonchalant preparation. He's seen it all before.

Honda "TORQUE" ?!!!
They have since day one made their power from revs. So any torque will appear somewhat above tickover !!

Harleys, like Brit bikes, tend to make more torque than "horsepower". Yes, yes I know you`ll pull my use of torque apart , in enginneering terms , James. But I`m using CbeeBCee style language to save time ! :smt006

Mind you, given that that video was taken in holland outside major Harley parts & accesories supplier, I rather suspect that the Hog motor was probably a little bigger than standard. ( Whatever standard is these days. That old Evo was originally 1240cc, but you can get them up to about 2300 now. )

Is that why he had to stand with all his weight on the kickstart?

I would suggest that as the Hog as it was kicked into life that the motor is pretty well stock 1340.
 Harleys (Sportsters in particular) can be pretty quick off the line..0-60 times are OK.
After that things slow down, just when the high revving rocket ships really get going.
:? In the day I remember watching a 750 Commando repeatably beat a 72 H2 at the Pod.
You could see the Norton just digging in on the line, front wheel pattering, while the H2 was either pulling a huge wheelies, 1st, 2nd (once or twice 3rd).... or bogging down.
The last 100 yards or so saw the H2 reeling in the Commando, but rarely getting there in time.(much to my youthful disapointment)
Theres no doubt that heavish bikes with a bags of low end torque are much easier to launch hard than Fireblades or H2's for that matter.
With MY limited riding skills I could certainly get my tuned Sportster down the 1/4 mile quicker than my H2,
However the H2 always feels faster, nastier, bring on the summer eh! . ...LOL
