NTR brake calipers

Post by thelodgers »

NTR but may be useful info if anyone has the same problem. My lads new classic bike has corroded insides to the front brake caliper bores. I think there has been some water in there.
Does anyone know of someone who can refurb the bores ? New calipers are more than the bike is worth....and that's if you can get them. As it happens new pistons and seals are easily available and cheap so it would be a shame to dump the calipers if a fix is out there.

Many thanks

I take it they have a layer of fur inside on the ally bore. Had this myself and simply cleaned it up with some scotch bright pad. The seals will more than cope with a few microns of material missing.

thanks for the replies. Unfortunately the corrosion is rather worse than furring . You can see the damage and feel it with your fingers so there is metal missing . I know the seal will work with a new piston but there is going to be a bigger gap between piston and bore than the manufacturer intended, which might mean fluid can be forced past the seal ?

Any thoughts on that ? Thanks.
