Like everything there are a lot of variables, rider/bike weight and tyre wall construction being the main ones, so the standard specs can only be a guide for the original tyres with a 10 stone Japanese test rider. Someone may know for sure but I have a feeling that modern tyres have softer compounds and less stiff tyre walls to put more heat in them, so pressures have to be higher? You don't say if the figures quoted by Wheelhouse are the Avon recommended pressures or their recommendation. I would be more inclined to believe Avon, but it's only a starting point. Also Z1's are a big heavy lump

Guy at wheelhouse was reading it from an Avon book. I watched him do it.
I've tried the higher pressures and it felt weird so I reduced them a bit.
You have done the right thing, starting with the recommended pressures and tweaking it until it feels right for you. When i'm used to a bike I can tell whether it's too high or low by the way it drops into slower corners
I was told a few years back that for modern tyres on modern bikes that. 36-42 will ensure safe handling but obviously can be tweaked to suit, a triple on modern tyres, totally different, I think I run 31-36.!

If the pressure drops to 30 psi or below it does'nt handle right. You can feel it straight away.
I should I agine those highish pressures are for. Tubeless application. you'd be bouncing all over the place at that.
bear in mind also that more often than not us lot are being supplied with cheaply inner tubes, which can't take the pressure well either. It's frightening comparing the difference between a Michelin inner tube and the commonly available King or V- rubber ones you'll get fobbed off with. By many tyre places(. At top drawer prices !!! )
