Having read the DVLA info sheet., my 2 bikes reg, April 1975 (N reg)
do not qualify this year.
I will have to wait until Jan 1st 2016
Your vehicle has to be OVER 40 years old.

The current rule that came into force on April 1st this year is that any vehicle constructed BEFORE 1st January 1974 is in the historic taxation class
that means made in 1973 or earlier
So in triple terms your H2A and earlier is currently free to tax and on April 1st this year your H2B will qualify and on 1st April 2016 your H2C will qualify

You could go to the hassle of getting a dating certificate for say an already registered H2B that is a 74 model but made in 73 but the certificate costs about the same as the tax

So can it be tax free from April the 1st and if so how do I prove it to the DVLA?

Yes it can and as long as it's already registered you can ignore the DVLA and go to the post office with your log book and fill in the taxation class box in the changes section with the word Historic.
The post office usually say sorry we can't do that, you then ask them nicely to try on their computer for you as this was a power devolved to the post office when the local DVLA offices shut.
On their system they have a drop down menu that allows them to change it.
They will take a date from the V5 as proof. I've done it this way three times now.
Believe it or not the DVLA will not accept their own documents as proof. I had an original U.K. registered Yamaha 2300 that I wanted classed as historic and on the V5 was Date of first registration 1st August 1972 and they would not accept that this is proof that the bike was manufactured before 1st January 1973

Ahem, I am biting my tongue here, but they are a bunch of USELESS ROBBING BASTARDS!!!

I will be out here for 6 weeks, so I thought I would SORN the car and truck and get the tax back, the car tax runs out in Feb and the truck in April, So, 2 days ago I applied online for SORN, the only option was to have it backdated to 1st Dec, fearing that would have reprocussions, I waited until 1 minute past midnight (seriously) U.K. time, I applied for SORN, the truck was sorned from Jan 1st - the f"cking SORN for the car was Feb 1st - The ROBBING BASTARDS!!!!

Hmmm..

My H2b logbook says, first registered 2002... (Declared built in 1974) How would the PO like that?

However the S1c simply says registered 20th Jun 75 (same day I picked it up)
