So I bought new handlebar mount rubbers and as you all said they are longer than the old ones and the clamp now fits perfectly
I’m now looking at the clock nacelle and top cover. Does anyone have any suggestions on spaying them ? It looks like satin black so I’m wondering if something like spray hammerite would work?

I will use this on the old coils as well as they look a bit rough . Assuming they are ok when I test them …

I have now taken off the fuel cap and tap so I can take tank, tailpiece and side panels for painting. I opted to change the colour to Candy Orange instead of Blue.
So a couple of issues : one the small screws inside the fuel cap sheared off . I suppose I could change the seal without taking apart further ? Are the seals available?
Second thing: the petrol tap filters that stick up into the tank are wrecked , one is missing completely. Are they replaceable? I see a seal kit is £10 so am I better replacing the tap for £30 ????
Thanks guys, you are my oracle

Talk to Tangoman regarding the tap and unless the fuel cap is otherwise very good, just get a replica one.

Of course Tangoman, he’s just finished my carbs.
Regarding the cap it’s a bit pitted but ok. Just the inside is a bit rusty but the sealing spring is still ok but the seal is gone.
A reproduction one is £94.

The caps are made of a Monkey metal with chrome on top and the rusty pits can be deep, they can be rechromed but rarely look good. I wouldn't worry about a bit of pitting, when you see lots of Triples say, at a Rally, you'll see them in all states.

But don't forget that you get 10% club discount from Z-Power, so £85.

Agreed !
I tried it and what a waste of time and money....they polished the pits out and completely change the shape.
At the time you could only get replicas in the States, cost around £120 landed . Ouch !...
£85 seems something of a bargain now. !!

I’ve ordered a new rubber seal and I’ll just put up with it for now. It all works ok although I don’t have a key for the lock.
Talking of chrome bits I tried cleaning up the kickstart and gear change lever. What poor quality chrome on them, it’s flaking off . I know it’s 50 years old but it looks so thin.
I will likely just clean them up and spray them silver for the time being . I can get them done later if I want.

I heard that the use of hard chrome plating is soon to be heavily restricted, which means more expensive. So may be better to get any chroming done sooner, rather than later?

I understand that chrome plating production was heavily scrutinised in the EU years ago but that China still use the older more carcinogenic methods.
But maybe I need to have a rethink . There aren’t many chrome bits that need doing. Although I haven’t really taken a close look at the front mudguard

I believe June is the deadline. Some firms wil be authorised to use the old system but at increased licensing cost so no doubt this will be passed on . The general consensus seems to be the new system is not as good for automotive use

Carbs back from Mark Tangoman and they really are like new.
I seem to have lost one of the carb insulators but can’t find any for sale in the U.K. Anyone know if you buy the material and make one myself ?
I will of course keep looking in the garage , as I’ve also managed to lose the steering damper spring …

Been cleaning up the tank prior to paint. Used Caustic soda and now spirits of salt. Then off to painters .
Received a nice new main loom from Tim ( thanks Tim ) and my Accent ignition is on its way

.
All coming together now.
As I don’t think my front mudguard is easily refurbed does anyone know if the mudguard and bracket for a KH400 will fit straight on ?

The mudguard and bracket off a KH400 will fit though not quite correct.
The bracket is the same but the mudguard is a different shape, and fixes to the bracket from the top rather than the side.

Yes I like the more shallow shape anyway. I will have the original if I ever sell on.
So I may go for the new KH one for my ride

My S2A generator has the 3 wires for connecting to the breakers , One has been cut short. Problem is I can’t see any difference in wiring colour so can’t tell which is left, right or centre. How do I find out ? It’s probably really easy but I don’t know

.
For info I am fitting the Accent ignition.

Hi.
At the other side of the harness, can't you see black, blue and green wires ?
Green for left.
Black for center
Blue for right.

No can’t see anything on the other side . When I pull the sheathing back they both look the same colour. I suppose I could check by using a multi tester from the wires at the connector blocks ??
