We should all retire as soon as possible and get out of 'the system' where we work as slaves (at differing levels), paying tax since we left school so that it can be poured down the drain by the 'Government' ('education', wars; 'foreign aid' - anything to get rid of money so that we do not all become too comfortable).
They basically want you to pay tax and pension all your life and die as soon as possible after retirement. Fuck that

- we are selling up next year and moving somewhere were the houses are cheaper and the air is cleaner (and hopefully the garages are wider

). Will do a different (but related job) part time and do what I what for the rest of it
Rant over (before it really started

) - nice one Malc and Happy Christmas everyone

Good idea and well done.
Couple of my buds, have tried to do the same thing, but the business won't let them walk away.

All this talk of retirement......
I have just retired today after 43 years of full time stressful work 10 + hour days plus 3.5 hours of commuting mostly on the M25.
I decided 9 months ago I had had enough and gave my boss plenty of notice.
A very strange feeling even though I had so much time to mentally adjust.
More triple time and more time to actually ride the bikes.
Virtually all my long term friends have also retired so more time for days out.
Happy Christmas to you all.
Regards
Clive

Enjoy your retirement Clive, well earned I'm sure. I hope you have plenty of time for your triples now, I quickly found that after I retired I seem to be busier than when I worked full time. Can't work that one out, will have to ask her indoors to analyse the situation..... after Christmas!

How on earth do you calculate how much you need ? I want to retire in 2-3 years but want to go to America, yosemite, utah, grand canyon, motor home around Europe, ride and play with bikes. I feel I'll spend more than I do now, oh, what a conundrum !

All the expensive holidays you need when you are working, you will find you don't when you are retired as you are on holiday all the time, you can take advantage of cheap deals if you need holidays, we go to Spain for 2 months, february and march, rent an appartment its as cheap as living at home.

And if you REALLY shop around, you can get some last minute Cruises for less than the cost of a hotel!
