Just removed carb from bike to investigate leaking float bowl and the bloody outlet has come out of the filter …
Any suggestion on how to fix it back so it’s not loose?

Getting a bit cranky with it now….

Ok so I’ve worked out why it’s leaking . If I fill the float bowl up with petrol, off the carb it leaks at half full through the drain tube…..
Any ideas on how to seal the tube back up?

Edit: Spoken to Mark (Tangoman) and he says it’s very rare but can happen. It sounds like my tube has split. He is sending me another one to fit. He also mentioned using electrical shrink wrap, which my son has and we used on the bike. I’ll find out the diameter out and see if that works as it might be a fix for someone else.
Thanks

Soldering it would do the trick for you.

I like the idea of the shrink wrap solution to the problem and you can get adhesive lined shrink wrap too which would seal it pretty well but I wouldn't know if the adhesive is petrol proof.

The glue lined will dissolve in fuel. I would solder.

I am gonna wait for a replacement one to fit , although I might solder the old one up as a spare incase one of the other 2 splits…..

Ok now onto hopefully my last issue/question 🤣

My steering damper is missing the plastic knob off the rod. I see some for sale on EBay but wanting over £100…
I’m tempted to buy a cheap plastic knob and fix it on the rod myself. Anyone done this before . I’m really not worried that someone will say that’s not original…

Also, does it make a huge difference to riding the bike? Could I get by till I sort it out and still be safe on the road?

Firstly, its a friction damper, so nowhere near as effective as a hydraulic one. I don't think that any triples need a steering damper, they are not that nervous, especially the smaller ones. If they are shaking their head, there is a fault.
If I had one on my triples it would be wound right off, just for show really IMO.

Thanks Tony. I can try it without to see.
I’ll probably sort some kind of knob so it looks relatively normal…..

Hi Guys. Well I got the new tube from Mark and all fitted and no leakage now. 👍

So set tickover up at 1500 which required me to screw the throttle stops right in fully - is that normal?

Also I’ve tried to ride off up my hill but it keeps stalling even at 2500 rpm. Is this an acquired skill with this bike ? If I give it any more throttle it just revs up like mad …
Would this be an idle jet adjust issue? They are set as per the book.

I went uphill as I didn’t want to get stuck at the bottom of the hill ….

I’m must admit I’m a bit nervous of riding it now . I’m 67 and a short arse and the last bike I rode was my sons 125 racy thing , although that was for 2 1/2 hours but was 3 years ago.
Before that my Bandit maybe 15 years ago…
I measured my seat height and it’s 32 1/2 which I quite tall for me with only 30” leg …

Am I just too bloody old or just need some more practice 🤦‍♀️

Cheers
Phil

All day long... More practice needed.

Try turning the Airscrews inwards by increasing (clockwise) amounts and see how your stalling problem goes, it sounds like it's too weak when setting off.

The book is just an average starting point, every bike is different.

I’m gonna try to get out there again tomorrow. It does feel weak , if I blip the throttle it chokes for a moment then picks up.
Another thing I noticed was the RH cylinder got hot before the LH cylinder. Is that normal ….. ?
I am still running petrol/oil mix in the tank .

I’ll also check the plugs when I get out there again.

Get rid of ALL the premix! ... including what is in the float bowls. Carbs cannot be set to run properly with oil mix in the fuel.

Wolfie is spot on, practice practice every time and on the air screw, as I said before if it's 1-1.5 turns out start at 1 full turn out to keep the air lean while running in, then when run in, start to set/tune the bike up the best you can for your bike as they all run slightly differently.
Bogging down could be over oiling with pre mix petrol and the oil pump pumping at the same time.

Cheers Gary

It will be bogging down with all the messing around,.
Needs a good thrash to clear it out.
As has been said before the premix won't be helping
