This year most people were inside due to the rain and there was a great atmosphere. Even the ones that don't like loud music (you know who you are!) had to concede that they enjoyed it.
It would be embarrassing to have a decent band playing to 10 or 20 people.
not as embarrassing as when you book a band from Germany that you think will pull 200 plus and presales one week before the show are 7!!!
so you cancel the gig, but still have to pay for a minibus from Liverpool Airport to London and one nights hotel accommodation (for 6 people!!)
Luckily for me the club too the £££ hit not me personally

We seem to be going through so many 'no bands' proposals for rallys, why don't we all just join the Z1 club and settle at that?
The cynical view is that if the band was good last year because it was raining, does it mean it will not be so good this year if it doesn't rain...? Maybe we should just have a have a poll on whether we think it will rain or not...?
Cynicism aside, why 'second guess' on the issue? Especially if the formula was good last year?
with respect Pete, as you said you werent there, and you didnt witness the serious grovelling we had to do at the end of the night to try to raise funds to stop us making a loss. I personallly donated prizes, and members very generously dug deep and bought extra t shirts and raffle tickets. All of this was needed because the band cost so much. Hopefully the attendence will be better this year, but as you rightly point out , you can't second guess the weather.
As one of the organisers of the nw rally, my mind was made up months ago, as was the majority of the nw rally committee, but in the interest of democracy, we agreed to put it to the vote.
I think the poll is already a majority in favour of 2 nights disco.
The other point is that with a band you only get 2 hours of entertainment and long periods of nothingness. With a DJ you get a good lively atmosphere all evening long.
You all had a good time this year and i am sure you will all again next year. I am looking forward to it already
Cheers
