Touch-up match for a purple H2c

When I was at Stafford a few weeks ago I walked past a stand selling paint touch-up kits. They were called Bike Colours and I got chatting to the guy there as I have a few very small chips on my bike tank and side panels so I needed to get some sort of paint to get on.

He said he knew the colour for the 1975 purple tank and so I took a punt and paid him the £20 or so and he said he'd post the kit in the next few days. It arrived on time but I only got the chance to use it today.

Base coat is black and I used this to fill in the chip on the edge of left hand side panel. (caused by the petrol tap when the tank is removed a bit clumsily). It was a clean chip through the quite thick pain layers, right down to the base plastic, maybe about three or four mm across, so I just used about three coats dropped into the area with a small paintbrush.

Then two coats of the silver mid coat applied in the same way.

Then a couple of coats of purple candy top coat.

So far the finish is turning out pretty good and the colour match is spot on.

Got to still do the clear top coat but I'm pretty impressed so far as it's not an easy colour or finish to replicate.

I've been dealing with Mal at Bike Colours for years, he's a good bloke. His paint is not the cheapest but I have found it to be the best for colour originality.
