Imported S3 Registration Help !!!

Post by Gus »

Hi Gents .. Have Nearly completed my Rebuild And it's time to start looking at getting the bike registered as u.s import. .Purchased the frame & Engine ( well bits of it ! ) from D& K Motorcycles in Staffs who supplied me with an import document with the frame number on . The Engine would not have belonged to this frame ( well highly unlikely ) as they came separate . Have V55/5 document but first question is "registration Number " well you guessed it i have not got that  could anyone of you knowledgeable Gents kinda shed a bit of light on what to do ...i know the bike will need an MOT .but how do i go about that without a license plate or am i putting the cart before the horse ?? c'mon lads sort me out !!!

I have not had to go through this process so others may be able to help more but you may find https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 080814.pdf
the government guidance helpful .

It says in it:
1. Registration Number Leave this box blank. The DVLA will fill this in

The first question to ask yourself is did D and K put this on the NOVA system when they imported it? If they did you should have the reference number.

Next step is to insure the bike (on the frame number) and then get it MOT's (again on the frame number).

Fill out the V55 leaving any boxes that you do not know the answer to blank.

You will need to get a dating certificate on the frame number otherwise they will issue you with a Q plate. Rick does these but you will have to check with him to see if his ones are still accepted as the DVLA change the goal posts from time to time.

You may be eligible for historic tax status.

Write a covering letter if needs be to send off with the form.

Send it off to the DVLA with the relevant fee and wait with your fingers crossed.

DO NOT under any circumstances tell them that you bought a frame, you bought a complete bike in pieces Thumbs Up

Also it is completely legal to ride your bike to the MOT station without a registration plate as long as it's booked in on the frame number Thumbs Up

I think as long as it is insured and a genuine appointment has been
Made with the MOT station (so the law could check ) then yes it is. :D
