My new old skool helmet

Just had my old shell Premier helmet resprayed in truly tacky 1970's style. Gold metalflake with hand painted candy purple numbers and lettering. It's the kind of helmet I'd have wanted in 1979 when I started riding bikes. I know many will not like but...I love it!

MMM, Dont think Premier had such a modern design fitting to fix the visor to the helmet in the 70"s?

Yep.It's accurate to the Seventies , with all the original failings . Same as the old Bell Star 2 . The visors won't stay down unless. Popped shut . fully open is sort of half up , just enough to catch the wind and try and rip your head off if you look back ; and it'll mist up to buggery with your breath when closed , in slightly damp weather. ( and if you leave it ajar but down to alleviate the misting , you are back to not being able to look over your shoulder without. Your head being ripped off )

Ah the joys of Seventies biking !!!! It was an utter revelation the first time I tried out an Aria. Visor will stay put in any position , no matter how you turn your head ( not tried a full 360 rotation mind ). Super comfortable with no red seals left by the liner , and SO QUIET !!!!

Bring back nylon bed sheets and static shocks from . That's what I say .

and that shiny toilet paper. and shops closed every Sunday .. Yay !!

Actually , on the positive side to the Premiers ; the original 70s ones did have a super comfy lining , with a far better fit than the Bell.
with far better peripheral vision. And the Black Max (?). Design was a super cool paint job.

The bEll Star was WAY too heavy , with zero side vision !!!!

As pointed out this is indeed a "new" old shell Premier helmet. The brand was sold to an Italian company in the late 80's and it still makes the classic black and white Phil Read design helmet after all these years. I bought an orange Trophy model from Moto-Legends last year. It's fully ACU compliant and Snell accredited but is pretty much a period helmet.

Tell you what, it's way better than I remember my old AGVx3000s was although a lot of the comments above still hold true compared to a modern helmet with aerodynamic airfoils, adjustable lining, vents, anti-mist visors and what not. It's pretty comfy but I'm used to 20 years of Arais so anything else in my opinion will be uncomfortable to some extent. The sound proofing is not as good as some but better than a modern, top of the range race spec AraiRX7. With the visor up it makes a whistle sound with is period authentic by my memory to compliment the ring a ding ding! The visibility is on par with the best modern helmet. The visor isn't loose and will stay at any position and they have re-engineered the pivot position so that it doesn't flip up and scratch the paint surface which is what they all used to do. It will also stay down without using the press studs. That's the weird bit - having to clip both sides after a long, long time of single sided fastening. It's overall pretty good but I haven't yet ridden in the rain with it.

Probably mist up big time but that's all part of the experience isn't it?
