Post by Gard »

MY H2C IMPORTED FROM AMERICA IN 2007 AND WAS BORN IN DEC 74 . REGISTERED IN UK AND ON MY V5C/ LOG BOOK AS 01/01/75..HISTORIC TAX LAW IS BEFORE 01/01/75.. BUT AS RICK CONFIRMED TO ME THERE IS A 2 WK "GRACE " PERIOD AS CLEARLY THE BIKE WAS NOT BUILT ON THE DAY OF THE 01/01/75.. TRIED TO GET MY "FREE" TAX THIS WK AND DVLC REFUSED . TOLD ME TO GO AND GET A CERTIFICATE OF AGE. AFTER CONFIRMING TO THEM IT IS REG 01/01/75 THEY ANNOUNCED AFTER GOING ROUND THE HOUSES FOR NEARLY AN HOUR <BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT DIVULGE WHAT INFO THEY HAD> THEY SUDDENLY ANNOUNCED THEY HAD 31/12/75/ !!!! I BELIEVE THE BASTARD JUST MADE THIS UP AND A REAL HUGE ARGUMENT ENSUED. HOW CAN MY H2C WHICH IS ON A "N" PLATE AUG 74-AUG 75 BACK IN THE DAY BE A "P" PLATE ?... THEY JUST DONT WANT TO GIVE PEOPLE FREE TAX THATS WHATS GOING ON HERE . IVE BEEN IN TOUCH WITH RICK WHO HAS STATED ITS ALL BOLLOCKS PETER" BUT I NOW HAVE HAD TO PAY £32 FOR RICKS AUTHENTIC CERTIFICATE TO SUPPLY TO THESE BASTARDS ....DVLC WILL NOT ACCEPT MY WORD OF MY V5C ECT ECT ...HOW THE HELL CAN MY H2C BE 31/12/75.... I TOLD THEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN CLEARLY A MISTAKE HAS BEEN MADE AT THEIR END . WELL THE HOUR LONG CALL WAS RECORDED FOR "CLARITY PURPOSES SO IT MUST HAVE BEEN A LAUGH A MINUTE , GOOD THING I DIDNT MENTION WELSHNESS BIGOTRY AND RACISM TOWARDS SAXON FOLK .

They wouldn`t accept that !!
And if they wanted to get arsey, they could refer us all to there standard terms and conditions
( Which they seem to modify at a whim, with no forward notice to their " Customers " )
which state that " If the Manufacturer still exists, a dating letter must first be obtained from them. Only if that is not forthcoming wil DVLA consider an alternative reliable source of dating Letter. " Oh, and now you MUST provide a Covering Letter explaining why also .

I would think it simpler to SORN the bik through Winter, and tax it when you want to use it. If that is for one ride out in a Month, then just SORNit again at end of month. Make the buggers run up thir costs issuing you with a refund cheque. D that alternate months, until your bike becomesHistoric tax eligible.................whenever that is decreed by the arseholes !!

( Or wait until April, and go to your Post Office . They hve the power to alter your Tax status on their terminals . And the nice old girl will be mo reasonale to delal with ??

Found this on internet.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... 181115.pdf

It's exactly what they should be doing - giving a week's grace till 7th January.

Genuis !! They are damned by their own written word.

Just go down the Post Office now , show them that DVLA Form , and your log book with the 1/1/75 date. , and get them to alter it to Historic Tax,
And a flying b@ttf@ck to those non-Welsh penpushing halfwits !!!!

I was told last week by the DVLA that you can't apply for historic vehicle status until the start of the new tax year then you can do it all via the Post Office :?

[quote="Steve L"]I was told last week by the DVLA that you can't apply for historic vehicle status until the start of the new tax year then you can do it all via the Post Office :?[/

And exactly what logical justifiable reason could they use to back that up ??

As they , the DVLA Started their registration years on August 1st since 1964. .

The personal Fiancial Tax Year has bugger all to do with it.

If someone in DVLA has told you this , it would seem to be another fabrication ?

Qualication for Historic Tax, recorded in their own Forms and Documentation has always been 1st January ,initially starting on 1/1/73 . since Kenneth Clarke forced them into creating a Historic Tac exemption.

It would ha,ve been a rolling onward year by year for Historic classification , except Labour got in , and halted it.

Is this another example of these arseholes just making things up as they go along ??

Or am I being unfair , and it has been clearly published and documented , and we , the public have been well warned ??

( Cue somebody,posting up a DVLA notification of this. !!! )

It is a fact Neil and it is on their website, but I can't see any logic in the year rolling over in April either :smt102

Neil, I'm guessing it is probably tied in with the budget and to cope with any changes the chancellor makes they only need to make changes their system once a year. Maybe. :smt102

you're so fair and reasonable with them Hal.

Changing the level of tax in these days of computers is a one button click
. There are no road tax discs , and it's all done on line , so it Is verry very easy to change things.

AND April has never , never been a significant date in terms of DVLA registrations.

August first for new registration Letter since 1964 . and now it changes Feb 1st and Aug 1st.

up until this year , the Historic Tax qualification has always been from 1st of Year

. So Why has it changed ? And on what authority ???

( and again , apologies if there is documented notifying evidence !!! but I,just suspect that they just shoot this tosh off themselves , and expect not to be held to account for it. . )

thanks barrie for the tip about the headstock sticker.. I mentioned that straight of the bat and they would not even consider it ,only a cert from rick they will accept.. and eric as far as imports are concerned ive had 3 hour long phone calls to the dvlc during the past 4 wks and ive had linda roger and susan to deal with . , all clearly welsh natives with clear tonal weshl accents which were birthright voices from clearly indigenous people , the were no Bangladeshi, sub continental recently landed/arrived/ marriage of convieniance voices during the entire conversations ! actually maybe I may have had more success with someone who had just arrived from karrachi with their commonwealth free pass <er I mean visa > ?...yes looking at this outcome there is a lot of this dvlc posturing going on .....I guess it is possible to go and speak to granny smith at the post office and demand it done?...failing getting a cert from rick.....its a con we can all see that though .

The imports come with ready made Welsh accents, if they were true Welsh you would not understand them. :D

Gard, I`m just wondering is it a deliberate thing , you calling them the DVL C ? Rather than DVLA !!

I think you know my views on this subject, and Rick also has a lot of cursing about this lot. Maybe we should start using your version. The Driver & Vehicle Licensing ( Bunch of ) C`s !!!

They call us their Customers, but forget they were already paif for out of General Taxation, and that it is a SERVICE to us . Not a bloody profit generating Business...................oh idealistic naive fool that I am !!!

I wouldn`t get hung up about the Welshness of it all ? Lets face it , they are wage slaves beholdant to their Overlords.

The true power is , as always , held in Westiminster. Probably some bloke from Surrey running it all. :P

Got my H2c documents with registered date 1/1/75 and took to post office.........

They said they couldn't change the vehicle to historic because when she scanned my V5, the 'change to historic vehicle' option didn't appear on their computer ! Only invalid carriage or 3 wheel. ( there's a thought....)

So after consulting with her boss, she informed me my only option is to send the V5 with 'Tax class' changed to 'historic' , sign it and send direct to Colditz - sorry DVLA.

Hmmmmmmm
