Stafford 2017

Post by 666rog »

A bit far ahead, but stick with it.
This year the club had no one to run this event, the most important imho. Gerald had done his bit for many years, thanks dude. With north of 500 members it's sad that we can't get a new show organiser. Everyone thinks every other sod will do it.
As luck would have it, Malc Wildeman took up the cause but just for one year and I offered to share the workload. It's been short notice and some quick decisions had to be made. We didn't think tha a mix of well ridden bike and mint restorations would work on a small stand. I apologise to all the guys who were willing to ride long distances to show their bikes and sincerely hope this has not put them off showing these bikes in the future.
At this point in my ramble, I would like to offer an idea up to members to help keep Stafford, and I believe the club, going. I'm afraid age and apathy are creeping up on us all. I've been given a budget to buy a box type trailer. I will be doing a 200 mile round trip soon to collect it and a similar journey to Gerald's place to collect the show stand accessories. I realised that maybe someone would take up this post but not willing to store it all and pack it in car or van to go to Stafford. Or have the room to store it. Sooooo, after the show it goes to a very kind Farmer johns place. Ta mate. That means any number of people can pick it up and tow it to a show. It doesn't have to be the show secretary. Maybe someone else could return after and split up the workload. Once at the show, instead of doing a million trips to a van and carrying it all in whilst the skies try and drown us, we simply wheel the whole covered trailer inside right next to the stand :D I am praying that taking over this role might be sounding better to someone.
But, I hear him say, I also propose that no one has to take it over for year upon year. What about a new Stafford boss every year. Plenty of time to plan and lots of experienced show organisers in the club to get help and advice. What this old and still slightly enthusiastic pissed up club member is dreaming of is; groups of members who have similar interests get together on forum or phone and do what YOU want for a change. For example, Jp, tartan, Gary (Scouse), can then show a host of regularly ridden triples. This year Kerry and Dan Dare offered specials. So how about a group takeover and have all specials. Maybe an entire show of only 500's etc. I can't think of anyway to making it easier for the future of the Stafford show folks. It's now down to you guys. Off the top of my head I can think of ten or so themes so go for it guys. I will be glad to take the trailer up for you as long as I can still drive and still have a tow bar and in excess of 300 bhp.
I'm hoping Malc Anderson will print this in the next mag for maximum coverage. Good luck with your club. Without it we will only have basefook.

May I just add. If any of you can see a way of adding further improvement to this proposal, and in doing so, make it more appealing to take up the mantle, please speak up. If, however, you want to rubbish the whole idea and be totally negative, by all means do it. I will say though, young mr Wildeman has been off work for a long time with no wages and is giving up even more work time to do this show. I don't think it will take too much for him to say bollox to it. Slag it off at your peril and face the wild Wildeman. :D I personally believe this is last chance hotel for Stafford. NO alcohol was abused during the construction of these two posts. :smt030 :smt030 :smt030

Well said Roger :Thumbs Up

I agreed to do the 2016 Stafford Show so it kept the club there

I have gained a lot of friends from the club and have enjoyed a lot of

experiences that I wouldn't have done had it not been for the club.

I think the yearly show at Stafford could be carried on if people want it to carry on.

The trailer situation will make things a whole lot easier for the shows.

Everyone has different ideas and opinions on what should happen, NOW is their

Chance to put their money where their mouth is.

So who will step up for 2017 :D

I spoke quite some time ago to Gerald about the role and the deal breaker for me was the storage needed.

Now that seems to have been sorted I am prepared to volunteer. (if you will have me and I get some guidance on what needs doing).

Hats off to Malc W for what he is doing this year especially since he is recovering from his accident. I feel sore right now with just my shoulders being fooked.

Hey Nick,

It's a big task and I am not sure what it would entail throughout the year.

A lot of people offer to help and do step up.

Good luck if you do take the post Nick Thumbs Up

Nice one Nick. You can take the roll for 2017 and pass it on for 2018. You can, of course, continue if you like. My idea of passing it on each year though is to let groups of people with the same interest, to put on a theme. That way, people who don't normally get to show bikes, can now take the roll on and show a different set of triples. I'm sure we will soon be flooded with posts asking what year they can run the show. Nick, you will get plenty of help at the end of a phone or text when you need it mate.

Well myself and Sarnd always try to do as Much within the club event wise as possible so I have been considering the Role for some while now and obviously talking to Sarnd about it (who understands and agrees) it needs a big commitment and yes Rog is correct , we have been waiting for someone else to step up as it's the easier option But we both now feel we are ready to take it on and if elected to do so we will do our very best for the club ( with a helpful handover from Gerald and Keith) and continuing support and input from all members I'm sure we will do the best job we can ,

So how do we apply ?

It is important that we do not lose our Stafford slot so thankfully this year the bacon is saved. I am taing a bike this year (as I so often do) and will support the show accordingly.

As former custodian of the carpet tiles for several years and the flack I got from Gerald, just because I couldn't get them there early afternoon (unless I took a day off work and hired a van for an additional day) I became somewhat demotivated with the whole thing, although I would always offer to show a bike.

So always happy to bring a bike to show going forward and support the event best way I can. See you there with my Gold H2

I don't see why it can't be a post that is covered by more than one person.

I believe Gerald used to help Richard Young and Keith Philpott helped Gerald.

How many shows a year is the club showing at per annum ??

Are there any shows that we could attend that we don't currently do ?

How about an organised stand at the Ace Cafe on Kawasaki day or two stroke day ??

Ace cafe is a great idea.
It seems this show organisers job now looks more appealing, which is what I intended. We now have three volunteers. It's down to the committee now. However, in my opinion, it would be nice if all 3 were accommodated. It only takes a bout of flu or a last minute family problem and the club is in the shit again. Maybe Nick, Ken and Sandra can have a job share chat at Stafford :D :D

I was off the opinion that Kenny and Sandra are prepared to take the post on long term (I could be wrong!) which is what we were originally after, someone to commit for more than one year.
Rogers idea as an alternative is excellent :D and if thats what the membership wants to do thats fine Thumbs Up
I personally would prefer someone to commit to it for a longer period.
If using a different person each year is what the club members feel is the best way forward then I will back it fully and yes if this is the case Nick has offered first for 2017.
At least we are at last moving forward in the events position. BIG thanks to Mal and Rog for all there efforts so far :D Thumbs Up

Yes Malc me and Sandra would have liked to have taking it on Long term, we replied after seeing Roger's post stating that there was not much interest after 72 views without really looking further back

Apologies to Nick there was no intended jumping in

Our decision was made easier for us as we now have storage for all we would need,
but We are happy for Nick to go forward as he offered before we did Thumbs Up
