Tale Of Woe

Post by Starsky »

I recently found an early hydraulic damper fitted to the H1 A7 etc ,in the States. It was in good condition, still operated and best of all was a decent price! The seller quickly processed my purchase and was looking forward to receiving it this weekend. All went well until it entered the Global Shipping Centre at Erlanger. On tracking the damper I discovered that it was a restricted item and classed as ' Undeliverable '. The seller didn't know what was going on. I contacted Ebay, and to be fair, they were quick off the mark. Apparently, the damper is regarded as a pressurised item and thus dangerous air cargo. If it was a gas strut, I could understand it. The money has been refunded, but now with the excuse that the damper was damaged and being returned to the seller. Either way, I have lost a rare item and am a bit pissed off! Moral of story, check with the seller as to any local restrictions regardless of what the item may be. So, the hunt is on for another damper. Wish me luck.

If it was shipped and described as, say, a 'bracket' would that not overcome this problem
