1972 H2 Rear Mudguard

Firstly, the mud guard that came with the bike has two holes drilled in the side of it, one either side the same diameter (See pics). One of the holes is quite tatty which I haven't shown. The one shown looks like it was part of the original design. However, could someone clarify for me if in fact they are standard and if so what passes through them, cable I'm presumming? The reason I promted the question is that I've looked at pictures of other H2 rear mudguards and the 'extra' holes aren't present, so this makes me wonder if they were an after thought for something added by a previous owner that wasn't standard. If they're not standar then I'll blank then off and also stop me racking my brains as to what they're their forAfter all, this one did have a cigarette lighter wired in when I bought it!!!

Secondly, I've aslo thought about replacing the mudguard mentioned and with the later plastic rear mudguard set up. Is everything in place on the H2 frame to allow this to happen?

So I'll ask, is it a European mudguard or a US?
I don't know of any plastic rear mudguard available for the 72 H2?

Mike, If you've got an original 1972 European model H2 then the Parts List suggests it was all one piece. See the attached screen grab from the European Supplement.
