What Happened....?

Post by Posh Pete »

Thinking about my very first job I could fill the tank on my motorbike for £1.50 which was twice per week.
My wage back then was £26 per week (including part time bar work). Lodgings at home were £5 and I paid £5.50 per week for the HP loan on my motorbike.

That left £12.50 per week expendable income which would buy 62.5 pints of beer at 20p per pint (not that I would drink this much beer in a week!!!!).

The same amount of beer today would cost ~£10K per year so factor in everything else one would need to be earning around £18K today to get exactly the same.
We had less but what we had we valued and we didn't give a damn about anything apart from enjoying the freedom of youth with little responsibility.

Beer and petrol were cheap, speed limits were more than liberal, there were fewer accidents and there was barely any trouble on the streets when the pubs turned out.

Well something must have happened in the meantime to spoil it all......!!!!

Chin's up. Im'e fine and Dandy.

I had been responding to an email from someone on a similar topic, then got carried away and decided it wouls be an interesting post.

BUT I did get traffic camera'd in Nottingham, on the roundabout right near Rick's place. Three ponts and £60 fine, even though the light was on amber when I crossed the line. Then there's the Inland Revenue to sort out.......

So I was thinking when I was 17 I didn't have any of this crap to deal with, it was mostly fun andif you didn;t like your job you just applied for another. :D

:D Sweet 16 !
I spent my youth fantising of Tall Legey Blondes and H2's.
The reality was a Puch Moped & walking/stalking the local Dogs. :( :(
Oh what fun :?:

Now I have the H2 & S2Annie, both put a big grin on my face:D :D

Just wish I had half the energy I used to pi** up the wall.

I think they were the best times because there were no pressures, just work, eat, sleep & play.

Who cared so much about money then? I had a bike, a chick on the back and all the time in the world to just have fun.........!

Bought 2 and half pence (6d) of petrol for my SS50, to get me to work, 7 miles, I was always skint.

Pumps only started to register at 5p, so attendent took pity on me and my dire financial state, but told me to cuff orf when I asked for Green shield stamps.
