We have all seen Dave Ed's immaculate H2/monster special right?

well i got talking to a friend of mine whilst he was doing my stainless workbench tops. Alec Whitwell, who was the original owner of that bike. We got talking about triples and he told me some scary stories of riding the H2 back in the day, and he said i have a picture of it somewhere.
Well here it is as he rode it in '77

As we are off to nostalgia land. Here's my H2C on the day I sold it in 1979. They were appreciating even then, I bought it in 76 for £725 and sold it 3 years, two seizures, a gearbox and a new frame later for £850

It's got all the restorers nightmare options. Rear guard off, CMA front wheel, chromed side panels and chain guard etc. Z1 mirrors

The cloth on the wing of the car was from giving the bike one last polish before the buyer arrived. God I loved that bike.

Bought my H2C in 1979 for £720, but to be frank I would have paid well more than that as it was such a bugger to actually track one down to buy at all they were so scarce. Every week I would get MCN and actually phoned a chap in Scotland about one - I was in London area.

I tried to get it back in 2006/7 but having agreed a price for the bike and booking the ferry the French owner decided not to sell......
I was gutted

They were just as scarce in 1976, I travelled from Newcastle to Torquay to buy mine. 14 hours on the train

It was worth it

Wow thanks for posting this Dave. :smt023 Possibly not long after Alec got it-still with the engine protectors fitted? Though I'm sure it had original wire wheels on it initially, not CMA's.

It had changed to blue when I bought it, still with the bellmouths (ram stacks) fitted on the carbs and the alarm under the number plate--it used to be triggered by mercury switches and would go off at the slightest disturbance! Then there was the fuel gauge built into the tank cap, operated by a float on a chain. It had a needle which read anticlockwise from F to E- usually alarmingly quickly.

I don't think the handling was enhanced by the oversize Avon on the rear!

Ah memories, getting all dewy eyed.

I seem to remember the GS in the background, belonged to Alec's mate, bloke by the name of Curly Bill?
