Adrian and me are having a run up to Hartside this Sunday 31 July.

Anyone interested meet at Broughton layby (A6 just off M6/M55 jct) 10.30 AM prompt. We will be stopping off at Caton layby and Devils Bridge if anyone wants to join us enroute.

Nigel...Head north on the a6 from the m6/m55 interchange, go through the lights and the layby is 200m's on the right.

well we met at Devils Bridge after a delayed start

And made our way to the nearest fuel stop, where we got a drink and talked Triple bollox for a while :!:

Not everone went onward to Alston where Malcolm was waiting (no doubt filling his face with pie peas and chips)

I had to get back home so couldn't go to Alston, but just after waving the rest goodbye my bike spluttered to a halt...mmmmm strange
There was plenty power and a good spark, but it seemed to be starved of fuel cos I'd just been wringing its neck..So I checked all the obvious and she started first kick but struggled to get home.

So its now off with the tank, and carbs to see what happening.. it could even be a slightly blocked fuel tap

Great fun these Triples eh

BTW good job I wasn't going to Alston with the rest cos by now they'd all fcuked off into a blue hazy distance.. thanks fellas

How very perceptive of you Roger, it was indeed Pie , Peas, chips and Gravy and very nice it was.

The planned invasion from the east fizzled out with Simonh nicking off on his hols and Lightweight Legal Eagle going to work instead

We ended up with me and Robh having a sort of two man commando raid rather than a full blown invasion. Good fun though.
At the planning stage we struck problems as my bike ran out of petrol on the way round to Rob's Last night. It's difficult to be cross when it looks this good in the evening sunshine though

The North West Boys eventually turned up and headed for the pie eating contest, at least that's what it looked like when we joined them

Simon was on his S2

Bill was on the H2b

Brian was on the Denco Rep H2B

Adrian brought one too many cylinders and two too many strokes, but was forgiven as it's a lovely original 72 Z1

Rob was on the Vincent

and I took my H2C, which absolutely loves this road up to the Hartside Pass

Nigel,(the lodgers) was also there, but was having bike problems and got away before I got around to taking photos.

I was there Malc. Sorry we didn't say hello but I was having a worry about the bike. Its not running on all 3 cylinders cleanly . All the plug colours were good . Changing the plugs didn't make any difference.
Also all the exhaust temperatures were similar . I don't know if its ignition or carb but I reckon ignition is more likely.

Having limped home at 5.30 , the bike is in disgrace and I'm not investigating now. However, I would be interested to know what ignition coil problems are like and can they be tested ? Starts and ticks over as normal.

Apart from this , had a good day out. Never been to that pub before and that climb must be fun on a full set of 3 !

Just got in, Its been a long day but well worth it ,it was a good day out.. We left Broughton with Gaz KH400,Bill H2B,Brian H2C,Adrian Z1.Nigel H1E,Brians mate on A Norton Commando and me on my S2. The Norton snapped his clutch cable 5 miles in, so after a bit of tinkering we left him stranded !! My S2 ran like a dream thanks to Alan Smith and Kev Mellings tinkering, thanks guys.

Brian had a bit of engine malfunction just outside Kendal so decided to limp it home, but we lost him as we turned off for Milnthorpe. We waited for you Bri but you must of decided to go on the motorway. Hope you got home ok.

Thanks to everyone who turned up. We'll have to do it again soon.

Absolutely top day as ever with good company and a good craic...My one abiding memory is how little fuel the z1 uses.I used about £16 worth for the whole trip on my 900...Simon on his 350 used about £65 worth to cover the same distance...staggering really...and Bill had fuel problems on his h2 also...Simon has a cracking pic

I reckon I had at least 6 petrol stops.

No wonder the triples didn't last long as a concept ( as in petrol cooled ).

Still, we had fun !!

well I finally got round to sorting the S3, I decided that there was some shite in the fuel line so it was off with the tank, fuel lines and carbs, and then give them all a good clean up.

First the tank...I drained the contents into a can through a clean cloth in order to filter out any crud, and hey presto, this is what was left behind, hardly surprising that the bike was struggling to keep running eh

Then just a quick swill out of the tank to clean out any remaining bits....hang on a minute WTF is that in there

Someone has left behind the nozzle/spout off a WD 40 can

Then on to the petrol tap which was bunged full of crud and years of crap which had accumulated

Then off with the carbs which were thoroughly cleaned, re-assembled and refitted (no pics cos you've seen carbs before, any way they really weren't dirty

Put it all back together, several prods and she fired up, sounding as sweet as a nut

Next job is to take the pipes off ready for something a bit better, I'm only at the half way stage, but the finished job should look (and sound) excellent , no prizes foir guessing whats being fitted :smt023

Job done.. now it really flies, I'm amazed that there is soooo much improvement to performance, more bottom end and a definite boost at the top end

Still running standard airbox and jets
