1973 H1 tyres - recommendations please - I would like to keep the original look as far as possible. In my opinion the modern sticky tyres don't look right on a classic - but all input appreciated.

Those are modern looking tyres O.C.
Best all round fro old fashioned style, good modern grip ( and fergawdssake-WET Weather !!! grip ) are either........ta ra ,
Metzeler Me11 front ME77 rear. approx £120 pr
or Heidenau `s. ( owned by Metzeler, bit cheaper. )
OR you could always go the Japanese Dunlop route, as o.e.m. style fitted to the Z1. Z-Power do them for not too much .
Just make sure you fit the right sizes. Too fat on the back makes it handla like crap.
4.00 x 18 R 3.25 x 19 Fr. on the Metzelers.

There's always the question
Do you want them to look at or keep you from sitting on the road.
Nasty modern types can transform the handing performance.
I never leave home without them.

When I had my H1A in 1971 I think the rear tyre was a Japanese Dunlop 420 or 425 and when I repalced it the nearest I could get was the K81 or TT100 which was a 410. It`s a long time ago and I am now getting on so the memory could be playing tricks am I right or wrong?
By the way I use the TT100`s front and back now.

I seem to remember running a Pirelli of some sort on my '70 H1 - it was a new design in about 1979.
Have also considered Dunlop K70 - any thoughts
Also the tyres from Z power - are they OK for a rider
Don't plan to go out in the wet or go scratching too much
Thanks for the input so far

I had those on my h1a..I wouldn't say they are neccesarily good or bad as every time i rode it,it tried to kill me anyway!..They do have a good period looking read pattern though..

K 70 is shit, my father on the seventies fallen down on his Yamaha RD 125cc with such tyres, he never fit some again after

K70`s and even Avon Safety mileage ( which look square !! ) are fine. You can get your pegs down with either
J.P. There is an English saying
" A bad Workman , always blames his tools "
Usually when you fall off, Pride does not let you accept you made a mistake. There was oil on the road ,or , the tyres are rubbish !! etc etc
But in the spirit of the Entente Cordiale , your Father was probably just too fast a rider for either the 125 or British tyres on French roads !! ( Michelins I find are very hard tyres that last a long time, but are not so sporty. But I know many French riders who will only use Michelins )
TT100`s I find, slow the steering down considerably. And can make the bike more prone to wallowing , or feel like the steering damper is wound up too far.
BT45`s make H2`s steer amazingly well. I have never ridden any other Triple with them fitted. But I`m sure its as good.
Of course, this is all very subjective. But I get through life by believing that I`m always right , it helps a lot !!

Neil excepted was on the lead on my RD 350 K 81 , no troubles and see on the mirrors the tyre suddenly slides and then my father on the ground.

So the choice is TT100, K70's or the ones from Z power?
Does anybody have anything more to say about any of these - clearly I am not going to be scratching on my H1 but I do want to be fast and safe!
So any further advice is gratefully received.

The TT 100 slides more on the curves than BT 45 but it doesn't matter on an early H1 cause you'ven't ground clearance (on H2 is an other story), I usually do around 4.000 kilometers rear with TT 100 on my 69 and more than 6.000 kilometers on BT 45 with my H2s.

I use the TT100`s on my H1A and as JP says you can`t lean it over far enough to worry about the grip, well not with the Higgspeeds on. Back in the 70`s I used TT100 on the back (the best you could get back then) and a ribbed on the front and I pushed it a lot harder then. The handling was exciting though

but on a road you knew it was OK the problem arose on roads you did`nt know. I learnt from experience
