Well after much delay have finally got round to starting on my KH 400. Took off carbs stripped and cleaned, refitted and pinched a battery of the power valve. Put fuel in tank and after a few kicks hey presto fired into life. Funnily enough though had a plug go down but found another in a box of scrap and now have 3 cyls. Managed a ride round the garden before changing exhausts, nearly totaled it coz forgot no front brake yet Managed to strip out caliper for painting before calling it a night. Was optomistically hoping to be road worthy for southern rally but don't think it will be there but with a bit of luck I will be. Here's a couple of poor photos, always forget to take them Will post more progress as it happens
Well had quitew a productive dec.
Started to strip down
Had frame blasted and then I sprayed it using rattle cans (budget a bit tight like me lol)
Freshened up forks and rebuilt (managed to make a decent set out of 2 pairs)
And have now started to rebuild
Still plenty to do. Off to Newark on sun hopefully pick up some stainless nuts and bolts plus anything that catches my eye. This is not going to be mint but hopefully tidy
Things are moving on slowly but excitement mounting as lighter nights approach. In the last pics you'll see that tank and panels just sat on coz couldn't wait to get an idea what it will look like.
Have managed to source gen front muddy too now which I'm well happy about. Think paint is going to have to wait till next year though but hopefully get bike on road for easter with a bit of luck and a following wind
She's coming along nicely. My kinda bike.
Glad to hear you've found a front mudguard 'cos that one is making me feel queasy just looking at it! Keep up the good work, spring's just around the corner.
