I am going to need TEN bikes that can be brought up on the Friday and can stay till late on Sunday.

We can do a complete variation of 'Before and After' Projects, Concourse and Specials and race bikes.

I will more than likely bring my Dragbike, would be rude not to.

Anyone else want to put their names up for displaying ????

Having manned the stand for many years my experience is that we need at least a couple of KH bikes and H1's and H2's in standard trim as the customers are looking for something to look at as a reference point for there restoration. The early and rare stuff is nice but not really what the viewers are looking for and it is good to have some race and special stuff as a talking point. Themes to be frank are pretty much of little interest to the punters.

Yeah, and all that stuff puts a huge demand on Mal71 .to get it together.

This thread started off because we were within seconds ( ooh, hyperbole !! ) of not having a stand at all. Then I suggested we throw together a bunch of used bikes that could just be ridden on to the stand. An " anti-stand" if you like. To show that some clubs have bikes that get ridden . And ridden hard. e.g. Our French Lads. Seemples.

Is this growing arms and legs now . Because sounds like what you want Malcom will need the carpet tiles and spotlights etc. All the stuff that nobody was prepared to store, transport, set up, take down, re-transport ; and store again ?

I have been to Stafford Classic Show once, and that was 14 years ago.

I have been in the club for a long time but have stayed in the background and not helped that much.

I didn't want the club to loose such a prestigious show stand so I took it on.

I have had an inventory from Gerald and was surprised how much equipment we have.

I don't have anywhere to store all the equipment and I am not taking on the Events Secretary role.

I am prepared to go to Stafford and stay there the duration of the show and assist in any way possible.

If there are bikes being ridden to the show and used on the stand, These bikes WILL NOT BE ALLOWED to leave

the exhibition hall until 5.00 pm on the Sunday and will need to be there on the Friday.

As long as we can put something together that people will be pleased to see, I don't mind which way we go.

Unfortunately I offered to attend before checking with my wife.
I have found out that I am already booked to go to a 50th birthday party on the Saturday. This was after I spent some time trying to sort out a hotel as Spitfire and Hurricane are both full.

You won't be missing much as my KH 400 is dented and scratched, has the wrong paint set, non original electrics and incorrect bolts (so not a great reference for anyone's restoration).

I can come up on Sunday to help staff the stand if needed.

That's not my point at all Neil.
I'm not for an instant suggesting that we put on a full Son et Lumiere, the point is that I am sure we can get several standard bikes to show up as that is predominantly what the viewers seem to be looking for.

I'm ok to be on the stand for all of Saturday if that's of any help. Can't bring a bike up though.

I'll need to know if it's of value for me to do the Saturday though as I will have to book up a night in a hotel

Good evening people.

With regards to the Classic show at Stafford I have decided on it being show bikes.

The show is a prestigious one and attracts a lot of concourse bikes.

I think we would be letting ourselves down as a club to detract from this.

I have space for TEN good show bikes

I have contacted some people already with regards to showing their bikes

I think if you want to look at bikes that aren't classed as show standard, there will be a lot outside the main hall.

I have agreed/ offered to organise this show so if anyone has a problem, please let me know.

Thank you to the offers of assistance as well from club members, its much appreciated.

If I have ruffled anyones feathers , let me know. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I have to say, I agree with Malc on this. My belief is the public and organisers want to see clean stock or specials. As a club member I am not being ungrateful to the people who are willing to ride bikes for hundreds of miles to put on the stand. I take my bloody hat off to them, especially at that time of year, with possible bad weather. I've read all the posts very carefully before I replied and this is just one club members opinion. I think we could do ourselves an injustice if we show the bikes that are on offer. Also, when guys from abroad offer to travel so far, it's sad that so many members, so near to the show, never go to the bother of showing bikes. Having done it several times I know it's bloody expensive and hard work. I don't know what the answer is, I wish I did. Whatever Malc decides, I will back him and help him. But we do need someone new to take over the role of show organiser. Maybe I should have posted this on the free " I don't need to be a paid up member on the face book KTC club".
if you wish to quote me, that's fine. But please use the quote button provided, not a variation of my words.

I haven't seen this thread before today so started reading with interest and then increasing concentration as the debate unfolded about how to keep the stand and then how to do this with real world bikes that members were willing to ride to the show. Throughout the thread I was reminded of how much we all respect our enthusiasm for triples and the lengths some people will go to help out.

Anyway by the end I had pretty much made my mind up that I would also volunteer to ride my bike up to Stafford and present an H2c that is ridden nearly every day through rain and shine. I was trying to decide how the selection committee would view it - whether it was not original enough or whether it wasn't tatty enough to meet the criteria.

But then I got to the end and saw that the theme was to revert to show bikes after all. I can't say that I was a little disappointed although I appreciate the reasons.

I'll probably ride up anyway for the show but maybe I'll come on one of my other modern bikes that can munch the miles better and more economically.

You stepped up Malc so it's your shout. Thumbs Up

It kicked up some interesting dialogue though which could perhaps feature in a future show. If it's been acknowledged that show bikes are appropriate after all then perhaps we could introduce the daily riders as 'editorial' posters. You know the kind of thing, real life bikes and club members with a picture of bike and rider, country, job, mileage, history. Also resurrection jobs, before and after shots with a brief description. It would give the punters something more to peruse at the stand and give them a clearer insight into the club. Mebbe not this time but food for thought. Oo...how about a video running of rallies past and present? Club history? Surely we must be one of the first Jap bike clubs?

Getting back to rough bikes though I think it would introduce a great talking point to have one total dog of a bike amongst the minters (like Malc A's rusty H2) - a sort of juxtaposition which would enhance the show bikes and demonstrate what can be done. :smt102
