On 2 Wheels..(oops - meant 'On Your Bike')

Post by Mitsui Spy »

I remember some of my mates getting this back in the 70s or early 80s. I didn't hold it in much regard back then and never subscribed. As it happens I stumbled across a copy because it was cheap and had a feature on the KH250 from 1979.

What a load of crap!

Amongst the gems in the KH250 article are the claims that "...all triples seemed to run better on points", "...not possible to fit reeds on a triple", "..[KH250s] have not been produced for a year..[1979]".."..blow back from the non-reed valve induction system..[makes it smoke at full throttle]" plus the usual middle cylinder bollocks of course. Conveniently there's a photo showing you where to find the REAR brake fluid reservoir!

It's not all bad to be fair. Some of the article is reasonable and there are some great contemporary reference photos.

Elsewhere in the magazine there are some refreshingly hilarious typical 70s items. There's a feature on crash repairs. Not a scrap of PPE in sight of course, or a mention of H&S. In one photo, a bloke in jeans and T-shirt is holding up a tank he's just sprayed. His whole bare left arm has been spray painted  edit: actually on closer inspection it may be a glove, but there are other photos with painted hands.

For a feature on the KH I think they got confused with the Z here:

Yeah, it's some sort of glove. This is quite realistic though - it's what I look like after I've done a paint job.

Here we go straight from painting your hand black to getting the oxy torch into the tank damage.

I know it's just a posed photo but these days people would wet themselves about the lack of PPE

In fact I'm really warming to On Your Bike, just for the nostalgia and 'keeping it real'
